Mixtape Movements: @LornavBennett – This Is Lorna (Mixed By @IamYaadcore)

In celebration of Reggae singer (and Protoje’s mom) Lorna Bennett’s birthday, she released the “mixtape” version of her debut album. Titled “This Is Lorna” and mixed by Rory Yaadcore, this album included her single “Breakfast In Bed” which made her the first female artist to top the Jamaica singles chart for five consecutive weeks. For many who are familiar with her work can reminisce on her hits and new listeners can be educated (and see who Protoje got his talent from). Wonderful listen from a great artist. NEW MUSIC: @Jah9 x @Protoje – Legitimate

Today’s new music comes from Jah 9 and Protoje. Titled “Legitimate” and produced by Rory Stone Love, we hear the two Reggae artists dropping conscious lyrics about living life righteously, love, and being positive over a soothing production. This is track 11 off Jah 9’s “New Name” album which has been receiving rave reviews all around. Great song to meditate to. “New Name” is still on iTunes so get it today. OLDIES SUNDAY: Alton Ellis – Willow Tree (1967)

After dropping Raine Seville’s “Willow Tree” yesterday, I felt it was only right to play one of the original songs. Today I feature a song by the late Alton Ellis a.k.a. the GodFather of Rocksteady. Titled “Willow Tree” and produced by Coxsone Records in 1967, this was a cover of Chuck Jackson’s “My Willow Tree” which was done in 1962 but never made it to the music charts. This song is about finding new song all while sparing the “Willow Tree” from sharing the pain of past failed relationships.

NEW VIDEO: @OnstageTV Interviews @CureAgain (Jah Cure)

While prepping for his big performance at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records “Behind The Screen” series, Jah Cure linked up with Winford Williams on the Onstage set. In this Interview he spoke about his first official performance in Kingston, the “Songs of Redemption” film, his management, his previous album, and his upcoming projects. Jah Cure also previewed the video for his single “That Girl“. Good Interview, I liked that he spoke on management not handling his businesses properly and why his last album wasn’t given the proper promotion. This generation rules the nation with version! Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from British Child Reggae Band, Musical Youth. Titled “Pass The Dutchie” and produced by Peter Collins in 1982, this is a song about facing extreme poverty. This song was redone version of the Mighty Diamonds’ hit “Pass The Kutchie” which was a song about smoking Marijuana. In the redone version, “Kutchie” was replaced with “Dutchie“, which was the name of a cooking pot.
