Today’s new music comes from Digicel Jamaica’s Ambassador and Best Cultural Artist winner at the 2013 Youth View Awards, I-Octane. Titled “Pretty Little Flower” and produced by Troyton Music on the Contagious Riddim, Octane sings about a lovely lady in his life describing her as a pretty little flower and an angel. OLDIES SUNDAY: @DawnPennMusic – No No No (1994)


Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from a great singer, Dawn Penn. Titled “No No No” and produced by Steely and Clevie, this is a remake of her 1967 single “You Don’t Love Me” which was produced by Sir Coxsone Dodd. Here she sings about lost love and going through the feelings of losing that loved one.

No No No” became a huge hit for Dawn Penn and became her signature song. It became a #1 song on the Jamaican Music charts and reaching as far as #3 on the UK Music charts. It also made it to the music charts in Japan, Canada, and many areas in Europe. The song was so popular that it has been sampled and covered by many artists including Jae Millz, Ghostface Killah, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Eve, and many others. Dawn Penn went on to release an album of the same name and included the hit, the album went on to receive a Grammy nomination.

 Dawn Penn continued to release songs and albums over the years which includes her latest single called “City Life” and even though she hasn’t performed in Jamaica in years, her song still manages to be played on the radio and at dances. She currently resides in London where she still writes and performs.

Here I- Wayne spoke on his absence from the Jamaican music scene, his performances at Sting 2012 and Rebel Salute, his personality, his style of music, his thoughts on Chronixx, and his wishes for the music fraternity. Today’s music video comes from Singer Romain Virgo. Titled “Cry Tears For You” and directed by JayMac, Virgo and his lover are shown experiencing the joys of being soon to be parents, only for his lady to have a miscarriage and we witness the couple facing depression and bringing conflicts to their union. The video ends when Virgo discovers that his lady is missing only to find out she committed suicide. The video was done in flashback style where it begins at the end and the events prior to it are shown.
