OLDIES SUNDAY: Garnet Silk – Mama (1992)

In celebration of Mothers’ Day I feature another song as a tribute to mothers, this time it’s done by the late Garnet Silk. Titled “Mama” and produced by Courtney Cole in 1992, this was a cover version of Clarence Carter’s hit “Patches” which was done in 1970. “Patches” was also a cover of Chairmen of the Board’s hit which was also done in 1970. In the song Garnet sings about his mom being there for him all his life and even though his father died when he was very young his mom played both parental roles. He also sang about working hard to take care of his mom in return.

A happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers out there and as a show of appreciation, 13thStreetPromotions posts one of two songs. The first song comes from singer OMI and is titled “My Old Lady (A Tribute To All Mothers)“. Produced by Oufah Productions, this is OMI taking the time out to say thanks, being forever in debt and showing so much love to his mom and encouraging others to do the same as well. Today’s new video comes from Irie FM disc jock/Artist DJ Sunshine also known as Katrina. Titled “Why Worry” and directed by RD Studios, we see Katrina being one with nature and dropping positive lyrics about having no fear for Jah is by her side. Clean video by RD Studios and a great effort from Katrina as I had a liking for the song and just discovering that she was actually DJ Sunshine. Featuring acts such as Judah Tribe, Iyah Gift, Eddie-B and Biggz General, this is a wonderful effort from the young artist. Shine your lights! Today’s new music comes from Alaine and I Octane. Titled “Lighters Up” and produced by DJ Frass, this is a song that aims to uplift people and encourage many to get out of the dark and into the light, to throw away the bad that darkened their past and move mountains in the present to have a bright future. It’s a real nice song, with positive lyrics that many would love and play numerous times. This song could even be used as a theme song for a talk show so producers get your cheque books ready. With positive lyrics and a great message, YVP singer Jahmiel dropped off the visual treatment for his single. Titled “Never Give Up” and directed by Jerome Hyde, we see the singer taking  a trod through communities while singing uplifting lyrics and ending up at Shocking Vibes studio with friends. Good video and song from the young singer, it was cool seeing him singing while sitting on the basketball hoop though. Check the message on the wall. Never give up. What do you think?
