Trinidad’s bringing in some new heat today courtesy of Jimmy October and Jay Nahge! Titled “Tag ‘Em Up” and produced by Anson Soverall, the duo decided to flex on a beat that sounds “Jumping on the V.I.P. Couch“, “Order more bottles” and “Make it rain in the club” ready. Dropping lyrics back and forth, if you haven’t heard Hip Hop out of T&T, today changes all that. 1. Soca Synergy: Trinidad Carnival Starter Pack Vol. 2 – DJ Captain John

I literally have been listening to this mix EVERY DAY for the past few weeks since I downloaded it. I have officially dubbed it my “Jamaica Carnival Starter Pack” mix. When I went to Mas Camp last Friday, I knew EVERY 2016 Soca song out of Trinidad (except the recent releases) thanks to DJ Captain John and this mix.

2. Soca Exposure (2016 Carnival Preview)- DJ Lantern MD

I sit and wait for DJ Lantern MD’s Soca mixes EVERY YEAR and I am never disappointed… this mix is no different. In this mix he has not only Trinidad releases but also Bajan Soca and my favourite song out of Grenada Carnival 2015! Nonstop vibes!

Taking it to another Caribbean Island this Oldies Sunday. The selection comes from Trinidadian artist, David Rudder. Titled “High Mas (Give Praise)” and produced by JW Productions in 1998, Rudder brought the church to the Mas (Masquerade). With great backup vocals and a energetic Calypso production, the song was done as a prayer asking for guidance during the Carnival season in Trinidad & Tobago.
