2026 is the year the Gullyside returns in full form. Mavado has adjusted his focus, looks forward to taking on the world with his Gaza peer this Summer, and we look forward to what’s next. Keeping it music, earlier he premiered, “Big Blessing“.
Produced by Keno4Star/JA Productions and featuring Valiant, Mavado focuses on success in, “Big Blessing”. The Deejays reflect on days when they didn’t have it, and now they’re securing Millions, having a life they worked for, and proving the haters wrong. The success is evident on the Deejays in the Damaniac Visualz-directed music video, and it’s toasting to the good life, having the Mansion in the hills, and being around the people who helped to make the dream come to life. The Gullyside/Diplomats collaboration will find favour with the fans, and we hope these two have more in store. The “Gully Gad” reclaims his streets.

We have officially crossed the half mark of the 2020s, and a lot has happened. In Jamaica’s music scene, many new Artists and movements emerged, some fell by the wayside just as quickly as they get the break, and others never made it to the 2020s for one reason or another. We remember those who passed away, and may their music and works live on. In remembering the first half of the 2020s, we look back at a few songs that made impact in the 2020s so far. These songs may have officially given the Artists their big break, rejuvenated a career or few, set Social Media and the streets on fire, and crossed over to the International market. Here are 10 of them in no particular order.
2022 was a year for Dancehall Artist Valiant. While he was building his career for a number of years, his name got the people’s attention thanks to a TikTok video. The video, which found him dressed in Ralph Lauren, gave the birth to the phrase, “Kotch E Hat A lie?“, which found life on Social Media thanks to various posts using the sound. From there, Valiant would capitalize off the buzz with singles like “St. Mary” and “North Carolina“. Those singles enjoyed love in the streets, but it was the Tarick-produced “Dunce Cheque” that took over households, and took flight to various parts of the world. The music video quickly hit over 1 Million views in a couple days, the single overall scored streaming numbers in the millions while securing a place in Dancehall and Social Media, and caused a few controversies thanks to the rise of the “Dunce” movement. Valiant officially became a star, and he keeps the fire going in 2026.
In 2020, people were made aware of an upcoming Dancehall Artist named, Skeng. The Spanish Town native was armed with aggressive lyrics and a presence that would unleash brimstone if he was approached the wrong way. He started to make noise with the gun-toting single “Brrp“, but it was his 2021 release “Gvnman Shift” that would open up the gates for him. His stance as an Intellectual who carefully detailed his badness throughout, placed him on the forefront of Dancehall music. The John Coop/DiTruth-produced “Gvnman Shift” enjoyed viral success, and even had kids in Basic School/Kindergarten reciting the lyrics word for word. Skeng became a star in the 2020s, with hit singles quickly following, and he successfully crossed over to the overseas market thanks to his collaborations with Rapper Nicki Minaj. Ay BWOY!
Last year, these two linked up for some drama. This year, they continue with the tension. Valiant and Shaneil Muir put on a performance with the single “Paradox“, and had the people talking. The single and video were so good that the people needed a continuation. Earlier, they premiered the video for, “Paradox Pt. 2“.
Directed by Ruppi for Now Or Never, Valiant and Shaneil Muir continue the toxicity with the video for “Paradox Pt. 2”. Shot in New York, Valiant finds himself at Shaneil’s door with Flowers and apologies, but it soon turned into arguments. The video also featured Actor Johnoy “TV Boss” Williams, who plays the role of the Father who wants to protect his Daughter. “Paradox Pt. 2” taps into the realities that many couples go through daily. Sometimes they’re dealt with publicly, and they are not always left with a happy ending. Valiant and Shaniel Muir continue to show great chemistry, and talks about a joint project, or even more chapters to the saga will happen. “Paradox Pt. 2” was produced by Traptive Music and RaheemWidTheBook.

Jamaica is home to many lyricists and firestarters, and the tradition continues with every generation of Artists. Dancehall Artist Versi has been one of the genre’s hard-hitting voices, with a respectable catalogue. Today, he shows that he’s “Portland’s Very Own” with his debut album.
Featuring 16 tracks, Versi extends his catalogue with something that will be celebrated for years to come in the “Portland’s Very Own” album. Versi covers a few bases with the new project, tackling topics that reflect on his daily life, the experiences of himself and others, and still provides some needed energy for the listener. Production on “P.O.V.” includes the likes of Gasha Blacks Productions, Just Easy Productions, DJ Trilla, YGR, I Chad Records, Din Din/Hemton Music, and Cawvinz Entertainment, while he shares collaborations with Valiant, Mwata Modola, Chronic Law, Rygin King, Yonique Murdock, Ginjah, and Louie Culture. To have fun in the sun is the mission when it comes to the Summer season, and that fun can be had in a variety of ways. For Dancehall Artist Valiant, he wants to take over the streets. If you’re not understanding his motive, he’ll let you in on it in the video for the new single, “Bimma Summer“.
Directed by Top Shootah, Valiant has ambitions of burning rubber in the video for, “Bimma Summer”. Whether you have a taste for the 5 series, have a need for speed with the M4, or you prefer taking on the road in a X series, Valiant has his eyes on a BMW this time around, no need for the other brands. The RKTrap/ProdByTarick-produced single is bound to catch the ears of the Bimma enthusiast, and we can expect this one to be loud in the streets in the coming days. Whether your domain is at the party or the racetrack, parry hard, but drive safely.
