OLDIES SUNDAY: Fathead – Champion (1983)

The winning season is here, and it’s going down in Paris, France for the 2024 Olympic Games. We wish all the Athletes all the best, but we really want Team Jamaica to carry home a lot of Gold. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection highlights another type of Champion, and we present to you the late Dancehall Artist Fathead with the track, “Champion“.

Produced by Henry “Junjo” Lawes and released through Greensleeves in 1983, Fathead stands tall as an achiever in “Champion”. He shares and celebrates his accomplishments, reflects on his journey, and highlights his abilities that earned him his wins. The track was done over the “Revolution Riddim“, and it became a known release for the Deejay. During a time when Sound Clashes ruled the night, Fathead is one of many who would help a Sound System secure the win, and defeat a fellow Deejay when it came to one on one spats.

Since the release of “Champion”, Fathead would go on to release more singles, including some with longtime friend and collaborator Yellowman. Sadly, he would lose his life in 1988, but his music continues to live on in many who see themselves as champions. Today’s post was inspired by Team Jamaica, let’s get the Gold!

Co-Produced by Mical Teja, who is featured on the track along with Tano, Jimmy October’s “Sprung” is a dedication to Calypso, and may she never muffle her sound. This one is for the streets, this one is for the world, the power of music no matter what form it takes is important to everyone. October and Teja bring powerful voices together along with a solid production by Teja and Tano for a track that will be ringing out of speakers for a long time together. Can we expect a Music Video for this one? We’ll just have to wait and see. Jimmy October and Mical Teja have been putting in the work over the years, and it’s good to see the levels they have climbed so far. Make sure “Sprung” is played wherever you go for fun today.

He gained fame from the singles “Weh Boy Put Inna The Chicken” and “Kum Dung Now” from a few years ago, and has since gained cosigns from prominent figures in music, built his following with more music, and shared plenty commentary on what’s happening in Jamaica, Social Media, and in the Entertainment scene. Nhance Teams Up With Teejay On “Tables Turn”

Dancehall Artist Nhance has been steadily building his catalogue, and extending his fanbase. He recently graced the Reggae Sumfest stage alongside Dancehall Artist Teejay sharing a moment of unity. Fresh off of the performance, they release the video for their new collaboration called, “Tables Turn“.

Directed by WVLNTH, Nhance and Teejay focus on elevating their lives, even when people wish the worst for them on “Tables Turn”. The video finds them in various communities, and over production by Bright Nation Records, they deliver a track that will become a hit for the fans. Teejay has been enjoying a great streak of success courtesy of his hit single, “Drift“. From International stages to “Fortnite“, the Singjay looks to conquer even more. Many wanted to see them fail, but Nhance and Teejay flipped the narrative on the haters.
