OLDIES SUNDAY: Hopeton Lindo – Slaughter (1991)

When you hear the whistle, you know you’re gonna hear a big tune! Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Recording Artist Hopeton Lindo. Stepping in like a General, we check out “Slaughter“! Produced by Mikey Bennett, the single was released through Two Friends Records in 1991. On the track, Hopeton kicks it off with his famous whistling before delivering some bad bwoy lyrics to those who think they’ll get the upper hand when they confront him. A song that’s fitting for any Sound Clash, Hopeton Lindo was ready to send all opponents to the cemetary when they step into his area for battle. “Slaughter” was a popular track for Hopeton, and was featured on his critically acclaimed debut album, “The Word” in 1992.

Since “Slaughter”, Hopeton Lindo went on to make more music, and did some production as well. He was responsible for penning the classic JC Lodge “Telephone Love“, and Deborahe Glasgow’s “Champion Lover” with Co-Writer Home-T. Once again, when you hear the whistle, you’re gonna hear a big tune! Kuff him!

Founded by Producer Dale “Dizzle” Virgo, the label has been behind the releases of hit singles by Christopher Martin, Jahvinci, Chronixx, Kim Nain, Delando Colley, Ce’cile, and many others. The label looks to take things to another level with their recent partnership with International Music Distributor, AWAL.

.@BobMarley’s “Three Little Birds” Featured In Upcoming @SongBird Movie’s Trailer

Covid 19 has set the world back a whole lot, and has everyone adjusting to a “New norm“. From closures of many avenues of entertainment and business, to our wardrobes now including face masks, we’re just doing what we can to stay safe and not become a statistic. For Filmmaker Michael Bay, movie making will not slow down on his watch, and has announced his upcoming movie, “Songbird“. Its trailer on the other hand, features a Bob Marley classic.

The featured track is Bob Marley’s 1980 hit, “Three Little Birds“. Produced by Bob Marley And The Wailers, the track was featured on classic “Exodus” album, and still remains a favourite for many worldwide. The song was recently covered by Bob Marley’s Grandson Skip Marley for the “School Of Rock” music education program. We highlighted it being covered by Maroon 5 a couple years ago for a Hyundai commercial. “Songbird” is described as a “Pandemic Thriller” that gives viewers another reality of the Covid 19 Pandemic, and it has since caused a stir on Social Media. Many have voiced that Michael Bay probably didn’t read the room when he put this together, but nonetheless, it will have explosions. Thanks to “Songbird”, “Three Little Birds” was given the same remix treatment as The Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It” from the trailer of the Horror flick “US“.

Kingston based Record label DZL Records continues to put out quality music for the world to enjoy. With success in 2019 and most of 2020 so far, the label looks to keep the energy up moving forward. With new releases from Saine and Scantana, DZL Records wants to close out the year in style.

Scantana is the first to step out with the release of “Goodie Goodie”. A song directed at the ladies, it finds Scantana putting together catchy lyrics, producing melodic flows, and cleverly weaving the names of 39 beautiful Jamaican women, and International celebrities throughout. Overall, Scantana’s aim with “Goodie Goodie” was to make the ladies feel good, further boost their confidence, and recognize their beauty in every way. “Goodie Goodie” was premiered on New York’s Hot 97 through the legendary Bobby Konders and Jabba, in various elite African Radio stations, and is the first single off of his upcoming EP with Dale “Dizzle” Virgo.
