Rise up, and listen to some good music! You’ll love today’s entry as it comes from Recording Artist Blvk H3ro! A few months ago he released his debut album, “The Immortal Steppa” which has been receiving praise and numerous spins worldwide. Today he keeps the momentum going with the visual for one of our favourites off the album, “Superstition“! Directed by Alexandre Hostein (who also produced the track and designed the single’s artwork) and shot in St. Andrew, Jamaica, viewers are treated to a retro styled visual filled with old school fashion (styled by Osunya Rose), video clips, herb, and a vibe that’s unmatched! If you’re not rocking while watching this, go see a Doctor. Blvk H3ro continues to show off his unique style, and that’s why he can be found in campaigns rocking gear from Levi’s and Carhartt.

Be on the look out for Blvk H3ro this summer as he’ll be making appearances at various events performing tracks from his album, and of course some of your faves. Looking back at the past can’t always be a bad thing as it aids in your growth, and shows how much your life has improved along the way. Lila Ike has come a long way however, and today she lets us in on her journey on “Where I’m Coming From“! With a visual directed by Nickii Kane and Lila, Lila went back to her hometown of Christiana, Manchester (Manchester’s the home of this Blog 😄) to reconnect and built a vibe with friends, family, the In.Digg.Nation team, and Chi Ching Ching! The visual also shows a younger Lila Ike during her Manchester High School (Sic Luceat Lux) days where was seen assisting the School Choir, performing at her graduation, and interacting with friends. With Lila, you know the fashion will come out as she rocked various hairstyles and outfits throughout.

With solid singles out, Lila Ike is continuing her path in being one of the upcoming greats in recent years. Regardless of where she is in life, she’ll always give thanks to The Most High for the blessings and the strength throughout. Be on the lookout for Lila Ike as she’ll be performing in a town near you soon on her headlining European Tour! Lila Ike EP on the way too.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Pat Kelly – Queen Majesty (1966)

Earlier today, we premiered Recording Artist Yanah’s new single, “Think Again“, now we’re gonna feature its sample. On today’s Oldies Sunday, we look back at Pat Kelly’s classic, “Queen Majesty“! Produced by Duke Reid, the song was recorded by Pat Kelly while he was a member of the Rocksteady group, The Techniques (hence why many releases used The Techniques’ name). It was released through Reid’s Treasure Isle Production in 1967, but was featured on The Techniques’ 1966 album, “Little Did You Know“. The song was a cover of the Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions’ single, “Minstrel and Queen (Queen Majesty)” which was released in 1963.

The story was Pat Kelly and his friends were huge fans of the original track, so much so that they’d stay up at night to hear it at various times on Miami Radio station WINZ. This was so because the signal from Miami to Jamaica was very weak, so they struggled at times. Pat showed interest in covering it, but had no means to get the Record. After hearing it multiple times, he finally caught all the lyrics to the track and made a Reggae version. The single was released various times since 1967, and was remixed by King Jammy’s in the mid 1980s.

Though Pat Kelly parted ways with The Techniques years ago, he is still an active Recording Artist having released numerous singles, and even handled recording sessions as an Audio Engineer for the likes of the late Gregory Isaacs and Johnny Clarke.

The season’s pretty hot, but you’re gonna need to cool down when UK Recording Artist/Actress Mahalia’s new tune drops! Teaming up with Nigeria Afrobeats Artist Burna Boy, they release “Simmer“! Produced by Jonah Christian and Felix Joseph, the Artists get into some relationship talk over a very familiar sample. Taking its place as an instantly recognizable sound is Jamaican Producer Jeremy Harding’s 1997 “Playground Riddim“! Released through the 2 Hard label, the Riddim featured Sean Paul’s “Infiltrate“, Cobra’s “Pet and Pamper“, Mr. Vegas’ “Nike Air“, and Beenie Man’s “Who Am I” a.k.a. “Sim Simma“! This isn’t the first time that the “Playground Riddim” has been sampled by Krept & Konan, and Bizzy Bone. Stay tuned to the Blog for a follow Article on this Riddim.
