Shav-A Pays Tribute To The Heroes On “Redemption Song”

The world is filled with heroes. While some are widely celebrated, and some have remained anonymous, they’ve all risked their lives in efforts to save many, or make a significant change in society. Paying tribute to her personal heroes, Recording Artist Shav-A delivers her rendition of “Redemption Song“. Borrowing the late Bob Marley’s 1980 classic, Shav-A sought the assistance of Musician Ed George on the Piano over the original’s Guitar performance, and gives us her 2019 version. While the original was inspired by elements of National Hero Marcus Garvey’s 1937 “The Work That Has Been Done” speech, Shav-A’s version pays tribute to Marcus Garvey, and fellow National Heroes Paul Bogle and Nanny of the Maroons.

Shav-A, who is the daughter of Reggae Artist Admiral Tibet, started her 2019 strong with the remix of her 2018 single “I Need Your Love” which featured French Recording Artist Orti. She is currently gearing up for a string of live performances to take place in the coming weeks, and will be making updates via her Instagram page at @ShavAMusic. She is currently promoting the singles, “Father” and “Island Girl“.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Flippa Mafia – Clothes Haffi Repeat (2009)

Happy Sunday everyone! Inspired by our Popeye Caution article, today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Dancehall’sFlossing King“, Flippa Mafia! It’s all about the fashion as we go back to 2009 to check out, “Clothes Haffi Repeat” a.k.a. “Repeat”! Produced by Christopher “Longman” Birchill of Birchill Records on the “Baddaz Riddim“, the track finds Flippa Mafia challenging those who said you shouldn’t repeat your outfits. Given the prices he has paid for his Designer branded clothes and where he purchased them from, he proclaims that he’ll wear them over and over again because he owns the clothes. Unlike some of his peers, Flippa threw shade at those who had to return their outfits to the store, or to the original owners which can be quite embarrassing.

Clothes Haffi Repeat” became one of Flippa Mafia’s signature tracks, and he enjoyed quite a buzz for a few years until he was nabbed by the DEA in 2013 during a drug bust. He was sentenced to 25 years in Prison in 2016. Despite the hand he was dealt, many still remember Flippa Mafia for his “flossing personality” and his selection of songs.

13thStreetPromo: Thanks for taking the time out to have a quick chat with 13thStreetPromotions.com. We’ve heard and enjoyed the tracks, but for those who don’t know, who is the Singer named Jaz Elise?

Jaz Elise: I am just a girl who decided to take a leap of faith less than a year ago to do music for a living. I love singing, wholeheartedly. It brings me a joy, and I’ve found that the best way I can reach people is through my voice. I am fully born and raised in Jamaica also.

13thSP: When did you realize you could have a career in music? How did you get your start?

JE: I have always been singing (church, school etc), but never really took it seriously. I was mainly empowered to only do a 9-5. My exposure to the arts however empowered me to really see a career being a Recording Artist. I really got the calling and courage to do it as a career a few years ago and that’s when I started going to studio, and did a few singing gigs all while still being in school. Encouragement from my friends and family as well as a personal conviction really pushed me to decide to do it as a career though. I would say when I released my first single (“For You“) in November 2018 that’s when I decided to go full force into it.

.@MelxdieYoung Links Up With @Mavado_Gully On “Girls R Better”!

It’s a Canada/Jamaica link up as Recording Artist Melxdie teams up with the “Gully GadMavado on “Girls R Better“! With the track produced by Christopher Birch, Thomas Tasker, and Eb Reinbergs, it’s a mix of that  “Gullyside” sound that you’re used to along with Melxdie’s poppy delivery that’s an enjoyable listen. On the track, Melxdie makes the statement that girls are a better company to keep, and will aid and motivate you, while Mavado agrees and shows love to his #1 girl who stays loyal to him.

The video that accompanies “Girls R Better“, is a Damian Fyffe directed visual that finds Mavado being targeted by the Police thanks to a snitch, but Melxdie holds it down for him. In the end though, snitches meet their end in the worst way. How’s Mavado’s acting? Shoutout to all the number 1 girls! Check out the video below, and share with a friend.
