Get Ready To Jab Jab With Temptress’ “Crocus Bag”

SpiceMas is in the air, and the people are ready to revel in it. Grenada has always been a powerhouse for some great music, and when it comes to Carnival, they do not disappoint. Enter Temptress, the 2023 Grenada Road March winner and the Queen of Jab Jab, and she’s ready to take on the road with the video for the single, “Crocus Bag“.

Directed by Man Of Viizion and shot in La Fillette, St. Andrew, one of the hotspots for Grenadian Jab Jab culture, Temptress and her crew are blacked out, horned up, and are ready to put everything in the bag in the visual for “Crocus Bag”. Temptress brings the energy here, and makes for one of the tunes for SpiceMas 2024 that will get everyone pumped up. “Crocus Bag” was produced by Jambalasee Grenada Muzik on the “Coals Dust Riddim“. For those unfamiliar, the Jab Jab culture is a celebration of freedom from hardships that’s unique to the Island of Grenada, and dates back to the days of slavery as slaves rebelled against the Carnival celebrations by the whites and plantation owners. “Jab Jab” is French Creole for “devil“, and the costumes/make up of black oil/molasses/black paint worn depict an interpretation of the Devil, and is not to be confused with the worship of such (and we know how people are…). Get ready to put everything in the Crocus Bag when you hit the road.

We see Marcy, Kaka, and a few friends take over a Laundromat for a series of dance moves before taking it to the streets, and escaping from the Law Enforcement. Internet sensations/Dancehall Artists 1SkiMask and Deno Crazy share a friendship that’s beyond the fame and the music. They both have made themselves big names, and have made much progress as Recording Artists. They have since taken their names to new markets, and have been securing new fans and opportunities. We get to see their progress in the video for their new collaboration titled, “Energy“.

Shot in Atlanta, Georgia and Queens, New York, 1SkiMask and Deno Crazy take on stages in the video for “Energy”. Over production by N3monia, the Artists are in focus mode, and are all about protecting what’s theirs, giving back the energy that comes their way, and how they move in the streets. War is currently in the air, but there are those who are more focused on things that are important, like their health whether physically, or mentally. Recording Artist Mortimer has experienced plenty in his life, but still standing after all that showcases the strength he possesses. Let him tell you what’s going on in “Not A Day Goes By“.

In a video directed by Pete Beng and conceptualized by Mortimer, “Not A Day Goes By” is the exhibition of a Man who is fighting battles internally, and seeks help from a higher power to overcome it all. From depression, to self-doubt, to heartbreak, to thoughts and attempts of suicide, Mortimer sings for not only many of us who going through these things, but to keep himself above ground in the best way he can. Winta James provides a mellow production to accompany the lyrics, and Protoje’s Camp Habitat is the location for Mortimer’s visual, and safe space. Mental Health is still a growing issue in Jamaica, with many individuals still seeking safe spaces and solutions, we hope there comes a day where we can all be free from these battles.

It’s Friday, so that means new music, and you’ll be dancing to this one. East German GRAMMY-winning DJ/Producer Tino Schmidt a.k.a. Purple Disco Machine is here with new music, and he brought along a couple friends. Get ready learn, “Honey Boy“.

Produced by C41 and LA/PAC, Purple Disco Machine’s “Honey Boy” features legendary Musician Nile Rodgers (of the legendary Chic band), Dancehall/Pop Artist Shenseea, and main vocals by Benjamin Ingrosso. The track speaks of a young man whose life changed when he crosses paths with a Woman who changes his life for the better. Rodgers assists the production with some great Guitar while Shenseea lends her vocals on the pre-chorus, chorus, and backing vocals throughout the track. The energy this track gives off along with the disco vibes will have listeners dancing with no hesitation, and it showcases Shenseea’s crossover appeal going in the right direction. For all the flack she has gotten for her music releases in the past few years, this is the direction I expected when Shenseea said she wanted to dabble in other genre. Accompanying the track is a Music Video directed by Alice Fassi and it shows the “Honey Boy” character morph into a Golden Boy who is the talk of the town.

The game of Cricket is in the air, and it’s that time for a grand event. Come June 1, the world will be tuning in to the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Tournament. Many will tune in for the wicket-taking, the sixes and fours, the rush from the game, and of course their favourite team winning it all in various locations in the US and Caribbean. Ahead of the tournament, Dancehall Icon Sean Paul and Soca Icon Kes teamed up for the official anthem for the World Cup titled, “Out Of This World“. Earlier, they shared the official Music Video.

“Out Of This World” captures the spirit of Cricket, the people who enjoy it wholeheartedly, and with Sean Paul and Kes on board, the music adds to the excitement. The visual starts off at the Beach where many soak up the sun and play a few games of Cricket, to friends enjoying a moment of unity, and capping it all off with a concert where the Artists take the stage. Highlights of various past matches can be seen throughout, and a few of your favourites make appearances in the video including “The Universe Boss” Cricket legend Chris Gayle, Cricket legend Shivnarine Chaunderpaul, and Usain Bolt with his Jamaica flag in hand ready to wave. “Out Of This World” was produced by Tano, and released through Dutty Rock Productions, and Ineffable Records. 20 teams vie for the trophy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, get ready.
