OLDIES SUNDAY: Garnet Silk – Mama (1992)

In celebration of Mothers’ Day I feature another song as a tribute to mothers, this time it’s done by the late Garnet Silk. Titled “Mama” and produced by Courtney Cole in 1992, this was a cover version of Clarence Carter’s hit “Patches” which was done in 1970. “Patches” was also a cover of Chairmen of the Board’s hit which was also done in 1970. In the song Garnet sings about his mom being there for him all his life and even though his father died when he was very young his mom played both parental roles. He also sang about working hard to take care of his mom in return.

NEW VIDEO: @IamAJamaican x Backbenchaz Season 1: Episode 1

Backbenchaz

Backbenchaz is a movement that aims to liberate the voice of the youth and aims to make the public more socially aware in an entertaining format. Today I feature the first video in their Youtube series which is in collaboration with IAmAJamaican. Hosted by Paula-Nicole Campbell and Chantelle Smith, they feature relationship advice, Jamaican culture, current events and many other features. They also Interview one of the top DJs in Jamaica, Zip 103 FM’s own ZJ Chrome. Here they talk about the climate in Dancehall Music, the DJ’s role, Vybz Kartel and his influence in music industry. Very entertaining video, I like how the youth are making moves to get their names on the frontline. Not many of us have the connections so we have to do it in our own way. NEW VIDEO: @DJSunshineJa A.K.A. Katrina – Why Worry

KatrinaSunshine

Today’s new video comes from Irie FM disc jock/Artist DJ Sunshine also known as Katrina. Titled “Why Worry” and directed by RD Studios, we see Katrina being one with nature and dropping positive lyrics about having no fear for Jah is by her side. Clean video by RD Studios and a great effort from Katrina as I had a liking for the song and just discovering that she was actually DJ Sunshine. Why worry about the world and what people have to say when you pray right? Have faith. What do you think? Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @OnstageTV Interviews @RDXMusic

RDXOnstage

From bursting on the dancehall scene in 2007 with dance songs there’s no slowing down from the duo RDX and tonight they visited the Onstage set. Here they spoke about their progress since their debut, their style of music and how they’ve managed to tap into the Soca market, their image, learning the music business, current success and future projects. They also premiered their single “Summer Days” that you can also hear here. Good interview, RDX has been known to burn up the dances so I don’t expect anything less from them for the rest of the year. What you think? Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @OnstageTV Interviews @QQWorld

QQOnstage

On tonight’s episode of Onstage, deejay QQ made his way onto the set to have a chat with Winford Williams. Sporting a leather trench coat, he spoke on his absence from the dancehall scene to attend to exams, his current and future projects, not following the crowd and even premiering his “One Drop” music video. Very short Interview but seeing QQ’s choice of attire made me wonder if he took the blue pill…or the red pill. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
