OLDIES SUNDAY: Pluto Shervington – Your Honour (1975)

Recently, Jamaican music lost an Icon, the late Pluto Shervington. Quite the contributor to the culture, Shervington delivered a number of hits over the years, and lent his production prowess to a number of Artists. He will be missed by many. We’ve featured him previously, but today’s “Oldies Sunday” selection highlights his classic single, “Your Honour“.

Produced by Paul Khouri and released through the Wild Flower label in 1975, Pluto Shervington pleads his case in “Your Honour”. While held in Court, Pluto defends himself against an accusation that he was having relations with another man’s Wife. While he was caught in the couple’s bedroom closet and beaten by an angry Husband, he pleads that he is innocent, and shares that the Wife would defend him as he is a better man than the Husband. With its comedic element, “Your Honour” quickly became a hit for Pluto Shervington, securing a place in the UK Top 20 Music Chart. The song was included on the albums “Pluto” and “Again“.

Since the release of “Your Honour”, Pluto Shervington enjoyed a career locally and Internationally, performing at various venues, and releasing many more songs. Shervington transitioned on January 19, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will be celebrated for years to come. “Your Honour” remains one of his most recognized singles.

Thank You Pluto Shervington For This Classic! Sleep Well.

Mortimer Delivers Another Hit For The Lovers With “Slowly”

No matter what’s going on in the world, Mortimer will step out with a love song. The Reggae Artist has been busy recording and performing in recent months, and even made appearances on records for other Artists. His “Lightning” single is still a song of choice for Weddings and celebrations of love, but for his new single “Slowly“, it will become a new addition to the soundtrack.

Produced by Winta James for Overstand Entertainment and released through Easy Star Records, Mortimer returns with a track that will bring the lovers out in “Slowly”. With his signature vocal delivery, the Singer shares lyrics about being the attentive partner who grants his lady’s wishes, she introducing him to a vibe like no other, placing him in a life filled with joy and love. Expect this one to be in heavy rotation leading up to Valentine’s Day, and become a permanent fixture after. Chronic Law Protects His Luck On “Salt Gyal”

Have you ever been told to avoid certain places or persons, or doing certain things so you won’t receive bad luck? In Jamaica, an unlucky person would say they’re “Salt“, and would be suggested to bathe in a River to get back in a good place. For Dancehall Artist Chronic Law, an Artist who is notorious for avoiding people for other reasons, is now protecting his luck by avoiding a “Salt Gyal” in his new single.

Produced by DJ Mac and Crash Dummy on the “Chakka Riddim“, Chronic Law is not having it with a Woman who will bring him nothing but unlucky times in “Salt Gyal”. He shares his experience with meeting a Woman like that, and takes measures to avoid having his life turn upside down. The accompanying Music Video, directed by Dark Moon Cinema, finds DJ Mac getting caught in a few unlucky situations thanks to his lady friend. She has been compared to Lot’s Wife, and Mac is going to need more than a River bath to get rid of his bad luck. “Salt Gyal” was previewed on Social Media for a few days, and we’re glad it finally got the official release. Protect your luck out there.

.@DamageMusiq Shares Teejay/Valiant “Homage (Day Ones)” Track Despite Possible Beef

Dancehall Music has seen its share of beefs over the years, from the biggest of stars, to upcoming acts. While clashes and diss tracks are exciting, we sometimes never know what the possibilities can be if those opponents actually collaborated. This week among a few beefs happening, Teejay and Valiant have stepped out with conflict. Two Artists who have had an amazing 2023 are now at odds during which would be another big year for them. Amidst the drama, we get a collaborated that was to see the light of day later this year called, “Homage (Day Ones)“.

Produced by Damage Musiq, “Homage (Day Ones)” finds Teejay and Valiant making a dedication to the loyal friends, the real ones, and the friends who have become family. Despite the pending beef between the two Artists (Honestly, wouldn’t be surprised if this beef was fabricated.), this is a track that is needed in times like these where backstabbing is common, and disloyalty is the new trend. Teejay is set to release the “I Am Chippy EP” next month, while Valiant is busy with new music and bookings. When this beef ends, we look forward to more from them. In the meantime, press play.
