Dancehall Artist Roze Don has been steadily keeping his name hot on the scene thanks to his growing number of singles. While things look up for him on the music end, he still needs to pay the bills. With that in mind, he takes on the streets as a Taxi Driver, and we can see him in action in the video for, “One & Ready“.

In the Bankroller Visuals/ShotByDeth-directed clip, Roze Don is making ends meet as a Taxi Driver in “One & Ready”. When it comes to his passengers, his vehicle only accommodates sexy ladies, and a lot is going where that is concerned in the video. “One & Ready” was produced by DethWrld Records, and is featured on the “Rockabye Riddim“. Roze Don seems to be a popular driver on the routes, and there are no complaints as it’s a fun time every time he picks up his passengers. Ready to roll? The Taxi is ready to go!

Hailing from the US Virgin Islands, the duo of Theron and Timothy Thomas a.k.a. R. City have been big names in music thanks to their songwriting and hit-making skills, racking up Billions of streams over the years. In 2024, they still hold that power as Theron secured the award for Songwriter of the Year at the 66th GRAMMY Awards last night. With celebrations in the air currently, the duo made more noise over the weekend with the visual for their single, “Das My Pum“.

Directed by Devin Johnson, it’s all about that special lady in R. City’s “Das My Pum”. She’s not impressed by the flashy things and status, but she deserves being loved and treated in the best ways. Mixing up some Jersey Club, Pop, and Drill on the production for a track that will get some rotation this Valentine’s season. The video shows off some of the beauty of Virgin Islands, and the Thomas brothers have some fun through with their favourite people. “Das My Pum” is featured on R. City’s “This Is Not A Drill…” project from last year. Play this for your special someone. Congrats to Theron on the GRAMMY!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Aston “Family Man” Barrett – Soul Constitution (1971)

Before we start off today’s Oldies Sunday, we want to send our condolences to the families of the late Alan Magnus, and the late Aston “Family Man” Barrett who made their transitions over the weekend. May their legacies live on.

On Oldies Sunday, we’ve highlighted many who have made the music we love. From Vocalists to Musicians, they have provided sounds and vibes beyond our imaginations, scoring hits, and faves in the process. Today, we highlight a Musician who was the backbone of a few important Bands in Jamaican Music. His name is Aston Barrett, many know him as “Family Man” Barrett, and we highlight his track, “Soul Constitution“.

Arranged by Aston Barrett and featuring Musician Glen Adams, “Soul Constitution” was released through the Star Apple label in 1971. The Instrumental track features Aston’s signature basslines, backing by additional Instruments, and a soulful vibe throughout that could easily be the theme music for a TV show. “Soul Constitution” was one of Barrett’s many productions, and was re-issued in 2016, and included in his 2016 album of the same name. It was also sampled on the 2007 track “Engine Running” by Hip Hop Artists Talib Kweli and Consequence, and Producer Madlib.

Aston “Family Man” Barrett was a member of Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Hippy Boys with Lloyd Charmers, the Barrett Brothers with his Brother Carlton, and The Upsetters with the late Lee “Scratch” Perry. He was a Producer who co-produced, engineered, and played on albums by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Judy Mowatt, Burning Spear, Keith Hudson, Augustus Pablo, Max Romeo, and many others including his own albums. He has been celebrated by many, and was recognized by legendary Musicians/Artists/Publications, and was awarded the Order of Distinction in 2021 during Jamaica’s National Honours and Awards. He was also highlighted in the upcoming “Bob Marley: One Love” Film played by his son, Aston Barrett Jr. Aston “Family Man” Barrett passed away on February 3, 2024, but left behind a legacy that will span generations, and like his nickname, a large family both biological and social.

Recently, Dancehall Producer Notnice had the Dancehall scene feeling nostalgic with the revamped version of his classic “Street Vybz Riddim“. Named “Street Vybz 2.0“, Deejays Chronic Law and Aidonia quickly secured hits with “Weekend” and “Bottles” respectively, and it was rumoured that many more Artists would make their contributions on the Riddim. Another one who stepped up to bat was Govana as he shared a preview. Today, it gets official with the release of “Gvn Toe“.

With a video directed by Rizzy for Now Or Never, Govana brings out his badman side on “Gvn Toe”. Going back to his former stage name “Deablo“, no one is safe when the Deejay steps out with his artillery. While others provided party songs on “Street Vybz 2.0”, Govana wanted shots to ring out with his release. The dark visual adds to the sinister lyrics, and will be a popular one for listeners. This one is for the “StrikeForce” crew, the “4th Genna” set, Deablo makes a temporary return to the scene, and he’s ready for whatever.

Teejay Unleashes “I Am Chippy” EP, “Dip” With Tommy Lee Sparta

2023 was the year for “Drift“, but 2024 is the year Teejay the global Artist makes significant moves. The Deejay has been busy these past few months. From scoring a International hit single, to signing a Record deal, to even confronting fellow Dancehall Artists in short-lived lyrical battles. With all that’s happening and happened, it’s still his time to shine. He steps out with the EP, “I Am Chippy“.

Featuring 10 tracks, Teejay delivers a package that is street-certified, club ready, and globally accepted. While many awaited an album from the Deejay, plans for that is currently shelved, and “I Am Chippy” will set the tone for his career moving forward. “Drift” and its remix with Davido are featured, and production includes the likes of DJ Mac, Panda, Slingerz Records, DJ Frass, and Extol Music. Teejay doesn’t take on the world by himself, and he brings along Skillibeng, Tommy Lee Sparta, Quada, Jaydon, Bayka, and Malie Donn.

Teejay follows up the EP release with the official Music Video for “Dip” featuring Tommy Lee Sparta. The Lagikz Supreme-directed visual brings out the Dancers, and is a great addition to the EP’s release, as it quickly became a hit since its release as a single a few weeks ago. Get ready to drift, dip, and hold a vibes with the Uptop Boss.
