Less than a week away, #PayAttention patrons should expect a fully revamped show kick-started by a complete change of venue. Often times big changes like this can mean detrimental losses, however, the show subtly made their maneuvers and are once again back at it hosting Kingston’s premier Hip-Hop event. The only way forward is up, in my humble opinion.

Q: I’d call you the technical audio director of #PayAttention; a long-standing organizer of the show. Briefly update me about the progression #PayAttention has been going through lately.

A: Lately, #PayAttention has been going through a lot; we recently decided to change venues. The next staging of #PayAttention on March 28^th will be held at our new venue Club Eutopia in New Kingston. We decided to try out a different vibe, open our doors to performers outside of Kingston that we have always wanted to feature. Look out for continued progress from #PayAttention as we continue to achieve goals and shatter perceptions.

Expression comes in various forms. For us, #PayAttention seeks to bring to the forefront what many fail to see on a day-to-day basis. No! I am not saying that you should be tuned in 24/7/365. But when we sound that gong & set charges to that stage, you’re going to seriously wish that you hadn’t waited to get involved. Enough programming, I’m looking forward to seeing you at Eutopia on March 28th.

Not easing up off the exciting Hip-Hop buzz of 2015, we have artistes ready to hit the stage just under two months after Jan. 31! I once again have the privilege of sitting with all four & sharing with you precisely what to expect come March 28th when #PayAttention returns at new venue, Eutopia.

Today, we hear from Imije.

Q: No stranger to the #PayAttention showcase, welcome back. What do you plan to do differently this time round? So patrons can know what to expect.

A: It’s no surprise really! I’m bringing that “Block” to the stage and basically showcasing my brand of entertainment. I want my people to know #Immortals, we’re gonna party to that, nah mean? Y’all can expect live collabs with the Red General (T.M.O.) and Kash Kapri for starters.

NEW MUSIC: @KashKapri X @Shotti48 – KASHFLW

Playing on the word KA$HFLW, aside from the cliché, it directly creates a call to action for Kash Kapri who actually leaves room for Imije to have his own distinct flow on the track. It’s quite obvious that the artistes never really parted ways because they complement each other well (hook).

Personally, I believe the bass on the track could be tweaked in addition to having the sonics turned up for my preference (I’d add it to my vehicle turn up playlist at that point lol). Gaz beats did a good job producing/mixing, my question is was there mastering done and if so, who did it? There is a level of evolution to be seen here overall. The track cover is dope; if nothing about your music is good, the one thing that can be used to speak otherwise is PROPER PACKAGING. Flow on point, lyrics on point. 876 Hip-Hop never disappoints.

Jamaica is home to a musical culture that’s quite diverse in nature as displayed at the #PayAttention concert series. Regular patrons should know that after a short hiatus the show will be back on Saturday, January 31 at C&C South Beach, 2 Brompton Road.
Pay Attention - January 31 (Back) Rseenal is ready to perform a Hip-Hop laced set & he explains why as we caught up with him to ask about his 2015 plans.

Q: You’re a #PayAttention veteran, how exactly does it feel to be hitting the stage after the short break? [July 19th being the last staging of the show]
A: For the opening act after the break, to hit THAT stage means to set the precedence: upholding the highest standard all others must follow hereafter. This is a great task.. rather, a noble task in the local Jamaican Hip-Hop community, that must reassure the rest of the world of Jamaica’s Rap relevance. It is a worthy force to be reckoned with because the First Coast movement is fully active and greater is yet to come!

Q: You’re scheduled to perform on the upcoming #PayAttention line-up, how exactly does it feel to be one of the first local rapper to hit the 2015 stage?
A: THIS! It’s seriously a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent as a solo act since Fo5ifth. So it really is a good look! I’m honored to be a part of the line-up knowing the body of work I put in since summer of last year… It really is proving that my hard-work and dedication is being acknowledged.
