Vybz Kartel Celebrates New Love With “True Religion” EP!

Dancehall Artist Vybz Kartel has found love again. While some may question that statement or give an opinion, it seems that not even the Prison bars could stop Kartel from forming a new bond. He has found himself love in the form of Sidem Ozturk from the Country of Turkey, and they are looking forward to making two hearts become one. In the meantime, Vybz Kartel has made a dedication to new love in the form of the new EP, “True Religion“.

Featuring 7 tracks, Vybz Kartel is celebrating Sidem, and the forming of new love on the new EP. Kartel takes a melodic approach, showing a sometimes softer side on the new project, but we still get that Vybz Kartel who knows how to deal with his Women “Romping Shop” style. Overall, it’s a project that looks to stand out like his 2020 album, “To Tanesha“, which was dedicated to his former common-law Wife, Tanesha “Shorty” Johnson. “True Religion” features production from Hemton Music, and Adidjahiem Records.

Love is in the air. Check out the new EP below, and share with a friend. Show us some love/follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Determine – Rappin Up Rhymes (2001)

It may be a wet weekend thanks to a couple Tropical Storms throughout the Caribbean, but we’re giving thanks for life, and praying for those who are battling the bad Weather. We hope you all have been staying safe in your own way. We’re bringing a different vibe on today’s Oldies Sunday. Today’s selection comes from Reggae/Dancehall Artist Determine with the track, “Rappin Up Rhymes“.

Produced by Steely & Clevie on the “Nine Night Riddim” and released in 2001 through Studio 2000, Determine stepped out on a song that showcased his unique flow, and his ability to control any Riddim that was thrown his way. Determine had a few hits in the 90s, and he presented himself as an Artist that stood out no matter what. “Rappin Up Rhymes” was just one of his many examples, and the track was a hit. In promotion of “Rappin Up Rhymes”, a music video directed by Llewellyn O’Reggio was released. The video found Determine chilling with the ladies at the River, interacting with many people in his hometown of Portland including his fellow Rastafarian brethren, and we see an appearance from members of his family including a young Runkus. Determine is still an active member in the Jamaican music scene, and many of his fans still remember “Rappin Up Rhymes” and his previous releases.

Marcia Griffiths’ “Electric Slide” Featured In New @SheHulkOfficial Episode!

Watched any good TV shows this week? Earlier this week, Marvel’s new series “She-Hulk: Attoryney At Law” debuted a new episode. The Comedy/Action series focuses on Jennifer Walters, who is a Lawyer who specializes in Superhero cases, and ends up becoming a Superhero herself called, “She-Hulk“. In the newest episode, a familiar Jamaican song was featured.

During episode 6 of “She-Hulk” called “Just Jen“, Reggae Legend Marcia Griffiths’ 1989 hit, “Electric Slide” was featured during the episode’s fight scene between She-Hulk and her rival Mary MacPherran a.k.a. Tatiana. Originally called “Electric Boogie” which was recorded and produced by the late Bunny Wailer in 1976, and released in 1980 and 1989, “Electric Slide” lived a few lives over the years. While it was a minor hit for Wailer in the late 70s and 80s, Marcia Griffiths’ 1983 version of the record was released and became a minor hit as well. It wasn’t until 1989 when a remixed version that was featured on Griffiths’ “Carousel” album quickly made it a dance staple around the world. The new version gave birth to the “Electric Slide” dance, which became the official dance for cookouts, family gatherings, Weddings, and various celebrations and events over the years.

If you haven’t seen it yet, “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” is available for viewing now on Disney+.

.@KyngTavii Shows Off Another Side To Him On “This Is Not A Love Song”.

Recently, Comedian/Recording Artist Kyng Tavii had a moment of controversy. He revealed that he worked with currently incarcerated Dancehall Artist Tommy Lee Sparta on a few songs. Their working relationship however ended on a bad note, and Tavii chose to share his information after being accosted by associates of Tommy Lee. While Tavii faced some opposition and doubt that his talents were good enough to use in collaboration with the Dancehall Artist, he chose to share original material that would prove that he was legitimate. The track “This Is Not A Love Song” is one of his original pieces.

Produced by PeeKay Beatz, Kyng Tavii shows off another side to his sound on the R&B-tinged “This Is Not A Love Song”. Geared towards the ladies, Tavii puts together slick lyrics, a melodic delivery, and a great command of the original production for a song that sounds like a hit. Even the people who bashed him behind the scenes can’t deny that Kyng Tavii is legit with the music. Don’t worry, Kyng Tavii will be back with the Comedy soon, just get familiar with the music.
