How are we doing today? While a lot has been happening in the past few days, the music continues to flow. Oldies Sunday, will always show up when needed as well. Today’s selection comes from Recording Artist Lone Ranger with the track, “Natty Dread On The Go“!

Produced by Sir Coxsone Dodd and released through the Studio One label in 1977, Lone Ranger steps out with some melodic deejaying on “Natty Dread On The Go”, and displayed a musical style that started to grow in those times. With his “A1 sound“, Ranger kicks off clever lyrics that were sure to entertain the listener. “Natty Dread On The Go” was featured on his debut album, “On the Other Side Of Dub“, which was released in 1977. The track gained new life recently when it was featured in season 4 of the popular Netflix Sci-Fi series, “Stranger Things“.

Since the release of “Natty Dread On The Go”, Lone Ranger went on to release more music, lived between the US, UK, and Jamaica, and made a return to his Sound System roots. His “Natty Dread On The Go” single looks to connect with a new generation of music lovers, and open up the doors for more to discover his music.

Enjoying a respectable run of releases, he sees Social Media platform TikTok as a new gateway to promote his music. Enjoying some viral success from previous releases, he urges everyone to share his latest music video for the single, “Foot“!

Directed by DirectorBadz, Squash puts his best foot forward in the music video for “Foot”. With his 6ix crew in attendance, they all show off fancy footwork while Squash continues to dominant with his music. A preview of “Foot” was shared on TikTok a few weeks ago, so the music video is just a way to capitalize off of the viral success. Squash also shows love to his fans by featuring videos where they showed off their dance moves. Popular Media Personality Winford Williams can be seen dancing along with Squash, further showcasing that they dance is for everyone. “Foot” was produced by World Team Production on the “Sports Range Riddim“.

We’re kicking off the first Oldies Sunday for the month of July with some Spanish vibes! It’s Summer, and we’re feeling the vibe to dance! For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we head off to Puerto Rico to check out Jerry Rivera’s “Amores Como El Nuestro (Love Like Ours)“.

Written by Omar Alfanno, “Amores Como El Nuestro” was released through Sony in 1992, this was a Salsa love song that was backed by some amazing Instrumentation including some addictive horns. With lyrics about preserving a unique love no matter what’s going on, Jerry Rivera delivered beautifully on this track. You can’t help but dance to this one, and it’s a great way to kick off any week, any day, any season. “Amores Como El Nuestro” was a successful single for Jerry Rivera, becoming an award winning track, and making his 3rd album, “Cuenta Conmigo” his most successful release. “Amores Como El Nuestro” remains one of his most recognized singles as well.

The years that followed the release and success of “Amores Como El Nuestro”, it gained new life through being sampled on various tracks. From Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq’s “Uptown Baby“, to Wyclef Jean and Claudette Ortiz’s “Dance Like This” (which was also sampled for Wyclef’s “Hips Don’t Lie” with Shakira), to French Montana’s “FWMGAB“, to Emilio Rojas’ “Flaco“, “Amores Como El Nuestro” is a timeless track, and remains an important contribution to Salsa Music.

Featuring 12 tracks and production by Kalonji Music Production and Blaqk Sheep Music, “Rise Up” will find Sizzla Kalonji giving you his signature sounds and melodies, with uplifting lyrics that will tap into your consciousness. Marcia Griffiths’ “Electric Slide” Sampled On @IAmCardiB’s “Hot S***” Single!

US Recording Artist Cardi B returns to form with new music this week. Officially making way for a new album, Cardi called up the arsenal to get the ball rolling with the new single, “Hot Shit“. Produced by Tay Keith, the track features verses from fellow Artists Lil Durk, and Kanye West. A high energy track just in time for the Summer, a small of a Jamaican classic could be heard in the track.

For a brief moment, you could hear a sample of Marcia Griffiths’ 1989 hit, “Electric Slide” accompanying a line on “Hot Shit”. Originally called “Electric Boogie” which was recorded and produced by the late Bunny Wailer in 1976, and released in 1980 and 1989, “Electric Slide” lived a few lives over the years. While it was a minor hit for Wailer in the late 70s and 80s, Marcia Griffiths’ 1983 version of the record was released and became a minor hit as well. It wasn’t until 1989 when a remixed version that was featured on Griffiths’ “Carousel” album quickly made it a dance staple around the world. The new version gave birth to the “Electric Slide” dance, which became the official dance for cookouts, family gatherings, Weddings, and various celebrations and events over the years.

We highlighted him in our “Chip Off The Old Block” feature years ago, and since then, he has been positioning himself as an Artist you need to know. While you know his legendary Father, Melekú carved his own lane, and has seen success as a result. Readying up for the summer, we the new single and video, “Son Of His“.

Produced by DJ Smo/Smo Jugglerz and Reid Waters of Bashment Records, Melekú continues to showcase his aggressive flow, sharp lyrics, and a presence that commands respect. With a lyric that finds him boasting about being in his prime, we expect a lot more content soon. Accompanying the new single, is a music video directed by RD Studios that takes you directly into Melekú’s world, and to the place where he has sharpened his skillset over time, Judgement Yard. “Son Of His” will be featured on Bashment Records’ “Jumpout Pack 1.0” project, that will be available soon.
