.@Maroon5’s Cover Of @BobMarley’s “Three Little Birds” Featured In New @Hyundai Commercial!

Don’t worry about a thing. Recently, Automotive brand Hyundai announced their sponsorship of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and a campaign followed shortly. Recruiting US Band Maroon 5, they released a Commercial that had them covering one of the legendary Reggae Artist Bob Marley’s biggest hits, “Three Little Birds“. The song was released in 1977 as track 4 on Bob Marley & The Wailers’Exodus” album, and in 1980 as a single. This is the second time the song has been used in a campaign for Hyundai as it was performed by Stephen Marley and Jason Bentley in 2013. The song has enjoyed numerous covers over the years, and features in various films, ads, and soundtracks for sports teams.

Enjoy the World Cup, every little thing’s gonna be alright! Check out the Commercial and track below, and show us some love on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

Third World Meets Tuff Gong: Songs That Sampled @BobMarley & @ThirdWorldBand

February 6 marks the day two Reggae legends were born, Bob Marley, and Bunny Rugs. Bob Marley started out in Trench Town, and became a larger than life Icon while Bunny Rugs made his mark as a Solo Artist, and Lead Vocalist for one of Reggae’s most successful Bands, Third World. While many pay respects to them today, we’d like to look back at a few songs that further immortalized them through samples. Samples will come from Bob Marley’s solo singles, or with The Wailers, and from Third World Band during Rugs’ time. Enjoy!

1. Bob Marley & The Wailers – Johnny Was (1976)

Sampled on: Notorious B.I.G. – Hold Ya Head (2005)

2. Third World – Got To Get Along (1976)

Sampled on: Little Brother ft. Mos Def – Let It Go (2006)

.@BobMarley & The Wailers Get Sampled On New @Migos Album, “Culture 2”!

In case you weren’t aware, the Trap Music trio Migos released their highly anticipated “Culture 2” Album a few hours ago. Featuring 24 tracks, fans are in for a treat as Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset are here to give you that fix. While the Album features the singles “Motorsport“, “Supastars“, and “Stir Fry“, a familiar sounding set of vocals can be heard in track 13, “Crown The Kings“. If you guessed right, the legendary Bob Marley & The Wailers has been featured on the Album in the form of a sample. Borrowing from the 1973 track, “Get Up, Stand Up“, the chorus can be heard throughout the production which was handled by Quavo and DJ Durel. “Get Up, Stand Up” was written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, and featured on The Wailers’ 1973 Album, “Burnin’“. Various versions of the song have been recorded by Marley, Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. It has also been covered and remixed by the likes of Tracy Chapman, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Shaggy, The Rolling Stones, and has even been parodied on an episode of “Futurama“. “Culture 2” is available now on all streaming services.

@DelhiSultanate Uses Reggae For Political Activism In India

While your favourite Artist may be using Reggae/Dancehall creatively (or stupidly) in Jamaica, the influence of the Music Culture continues to affect many others worldwide. One person in particular is Taru Dalmia a.k.a. “Delhi Sultanate” of New Delhi, India, as he uses not only Reggae, but the Sound System Culture to channel his Political Activism. While India is under the rule of the Hindu Nationalist Government lead by Narendra Modi (Bharatiya Janata Party), Taru alleges that free speech is being threatened under his rule, and using his talents will assist the many protests that are being held in many Universities across the nation. Armed with classic singles, and Dub Plates from the likes of Toots Hibbert, Barrington Levy, and Anthony B, he hopes that his assistance in the fight will not be in vain.

Taru is also a member of The Ska Vengers, a live Band that blends Dub, Pop, Ska, Jazz, Rap, and Punk to deliver a new sound. Below is a clip from the Al Jazeera Network where we look into Taru’s journey, and the challenges he has faced so far. We also feature some of the singles that could spark protests, and some that speak against the Jamaican Government.

@DamianMarley Shares His Thoughts On Dancehall & More On @EbroInTheAM

The youngest Veteran Damian “Junior Gong” Marley recently stopped by Hot 97’sEbro In The Morning” Radio show. Hosted by Ebro, Laura Stylez and Peter Rosenberg, Gong spoke on his “Distant Relatives” collaborative album with Rapper Nas still being popular today, the Marley name still being a strong one, starting his own Medical Marijuana business with Ocean Grown Extracts, sharing his favourite songs from his father, his thoughts on Dancehall music today, being an advocate for the legalization of Marijuana in Jamaica and more. While “Distant Relatives” is still a popular album along with his solo albums and Ghetto Youths International compilations, I know fans are just waiting for the next solo project from the Gongzilla in January. Stay tuned. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
