Today December 12 marks another year on earth for Dancehall’s favourite Mermaid, Tifa! With a year that saw many ups and downs, we know today’s a blessing for her. Celebrating her life and career, we compiled “The T-I-F-A Playlist“! With hours of hits, ladies can reveal the inner hot gal and “dash out” to this, and the fellas can prepare for the many moves they’ll perform with their “Champion Bubbler“. An Artist who has stepped outside the box many times and sealed her spot as one of the great Female Dancehall Artists, we have nothing but respect for her over here. One gripe some may have with the Playlist however, some of the hits were missing, but we blame the folks responsible for distribution for that. Anyway, get the party started for Tifa by checking out the Playlist below and share with a friend. Show us some love/follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.
Today marks the 45th Birthday of the one they call “Gargamel“, Mark “Buju Banton” Myrie! While the word is he’ll be a free man by the end of the year, we still celebrate him as if he’s already here. His music has touched the lives of many over the years, and many have shown respect in the form of covers, tribute songs, and by sampling him. Today, we feature a few songs that have sampled him. #FREEBUJU! Check them out below, and show us some love on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.
First off, BIG UP BOUNTY KILLA! Today we salute the General on his 46th birthday. One of Dancehall’s legendary artists, Bounty has been the “Dancehall Daddy” for many of your favourites since the early 90’s. Last year we highlighted his involvement in the careers of many Artists, but this year we recognize him in the form of our latest Playlist! Linking up with Spotify, you can enjoy hours of hits, collaborations, and songs you may have forgotten. No long talking, big up Grung Gad. Check out the Playlist below, and follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.
February 6 marks the day two Reggae legends were born, Bob Marley, and Bunny Rugs. Bob Marley started out in Trench Town, and became a larger than life Icon while Bunny Rugs made his mark as a Solo Artist, and Lead Vocalist for one of Reggae’s most successful Bands, Third World. While many pay respects to them today, we’d like to look back at a few songs that further immortalized them through samples. Samples will come from Bob Marley’s solo singles, or with The Wailers, and from Third World Band during Rugs’ time. Enjoy!
Sampled on: Notorious B.I.G. – Hold Ya Head (2005)
Sampled on: Little Brother ft. Mos Def – Let It Go (2006)
