Live show performances are a major part of a Recording Artist’s career, and many Artists have been giving their all to the stage locally, and Internationally for decades. Dancehall Artist 450 has been in a class by himself for a number of years, and recently he made the stage a top priority with a sold-out performance as a part of his “450 Live” series in Canada.

A significant milestone was achieved in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, September 7, as the “450 Live Toronto Edition” was an event that many won’t forget. Spearheaded by Tru Ambassador Ent., the management and promotional entity behind 450, the Rebel Nightclub on 11 Polson Street was filled to capacity with overwhelming support of the Dancehall Artist. Tickets for the highly-anticipated event sold out shortly after being announced in July, further solidifying 450’s popularity, and the necessary roles that Tru Ambassador Ent. handled behind the scenes to ensure success. As a thank you to the fans, 450 took them through a stand-out experience that you had to be there to be a part of, delivering hits, having a commanding presence throughout the event’s entire duration, and the patrons gave back tremendous support through enjoying every minute, and demanding for more.

The people really wanted this 450 performance,” shared Jahvy, 450’s Manager. “There was blocked traffic leading up to the venue, and the love that he got from the fans at the show, it’s nothing short of a blessing. 450 gave it his all, and I’m proud of the Artist he has become. We’re thankful for the success of this event, and we look forward to doing it again. Nuff love Toronto!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Messenjah – Rock You High (1982)

Reggae Music has enjoyed a number of “firsts” over the decades, and there are times we forget about them. For today’s “Oldies Sunday” selection, we highlight one of them. Today, we head over to North America to check out Canadian Reggae Band Messenjah’sRock You High“.

Produced by Rupert “Ojiji” Harvey and released through Phonyx Records in 1982, Messenjah came to shake the nation with good music on “Rock You High”. Taking the music to a new stage at the time, Messenjah was the first Canadian Reggae Band to sign to a major label (Warner Music Canada a.k.a. WEA). The track got a lot of attention for the Band as it quickly became well known outside of Canada, and it became a part of their live shows over the years. The track was released through their Independently-released debut album of the same name, which went on to be a success.

Since the release of “Rock You High”, Messenjah went on to become one of Canada’s most popular and successful Reggae Bands. The Band went on to release more music, collect awards, toured for a number of years, and even being featured in the movie “Cocktail” starring a then up and coming Actor named Tom Cruise. Messenjah disband in the late 1990s, but reunited with some members in 2014 for a Bob Marley tribute concert in Toronto. “Rock You High” remains one of their most popular releases.

Thank You Messenjah For This Hit!

It all started on August 11, 1973 in The Bronx, New York, and now it’s more than a global phenomenon. Hip Hop turns 51 years old, and the world continues to keep it alive. It’s Pop Culture, it’s an influence for generations, it’s in the Olympics, it’s everywhere, and it all started with the Jamaican DJ Kool Herc. As a part of the celebrations, Canadian Media Personality/Journalist/Musician Nardwuar a.k.a. The Human Serviette caught up with the DJ for a quick conversation.

Hosted at the Beat Street Record Store in Vancouver, Canada, Nardwuar and DJ Kool Herc along with his younger Sister Cindy Campbell a.k.a. The First Lady Of Hip Hop spoke about the birth of Hip Hop, the records that Herc would play, the Influences, Herc’s achievements, The Bronx being the mecca, Hip Hop’s 51st year, and more. Hip Hop started in the park, and 1520 Sedgwick Avenue will forever be the landmark. There have been debates, but you can’t deny the Jamaican Immigrant DJ Kool Herc’s contributions, and his position as the “Godfather of Hip Hop“. The genre continues to evolve, and we appreciate the ones who helped to build its foundation, and contribute to its legacy. Happy 51st Birthday Hip Hop.
