Posted on by swadedavillain

When it comes to Jamaican Singers, many names are called. One you should always put on a list is Ghost. For over 30 years, he has provided a style that instantly caught on with listeners, and is still very active on the scene. Last year, he teamed up with Bounty Killa for the single, “Despite It All“. Recently, he shared the official Music Video.

Co-directed by Ghost and Rayebann Entertainment, Ghost and Bounty share some motivating lyrics in “Despite It All”. The video stars Internet sensation Evy Royal, and Geezy B from Pelpa Time TV, and the video highlights people who work everyday to provide for their family, despite the challenges they face from the people who hold positions as leaders and bosses. Despite it all, they are looking for better days, and success that will take them out of their struggles. Ghost and Bounty provide a powerful song, and we hope it connects with the right people. To those in the struggle, keep your head up.

General B ft. Ghost - Mr. Boasy & Friend on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Dancehall #13thStreetPromotions

OLDIES SUNDAY: General B X Ghost – Mr. Boasy & Friend (1998)

Posted on by swadedavillain

Happy Sunday! Today’s Oldies Sunday selection is for those who like to show off, stunt, keep up appearances, and look down on people, but their priorities aren’t in order. The World is filled with them, but this man chose to call them out many years ago. His name is Dancehall Artist General B, and the track is called, “Mr. Boasy & Friend“.

Produced by Colin “Fatta” Walters on the “Top Shotta Riddim” and released through Colin Fat Records/VP Records in 1998, General B calls out those who always have the most money, have all the high end fashion, driving the latest vehicles, and who carry on like rich snobs. While some may say he is hating, the fact is those same people don’t have their priorities in order to the point where they don’t own anything outside of the fancy things, and one false move may find them homeless and flooded with bills causing embarrassment to themselves and their families. General B shares that he may not have the best of things at the time, but he is confident that at the end of the day, life is more in order than theirs. Fellow Dancehall Artist Ghost makes an appearance on the track by providing the chorus, and compliments General B’s deejaying well. “Mr. Boasy & Friend” was a hit for General B, and was one of many as he was a part of the legendary Monster Shack Crew with Ghost and Roundhead. The single was also featured on the group’s 1998 “Monster Party” album. General B is still active in the Dancehall circles, and has solidified himself as one of the contributors to some of the best years in Jamaican music.

THANK YOU GENERAL B!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Early B – Ghost Busters (1984)

Posted on by swadedavillain

The Duppy/Ghost/Obeah culture is very much alive in Jamaica. While we don’t celebrate events like Halloween (though the Party goers and folks in certain Communities do), we are aware of the spirits, certain folklore, and the people who claim to have connections to the dead or possess skills in Witchcraft. Today, we bring you “Oldies Sunday” to fire off a selection from the late Recording Artist, Early B “The Doctor” which adds to the Ghost/Duppy theme. The tune we present is called, “Ghost Busters“!

“Ghost Busters” was produced by Nkrumah Manley “Jah” Thomas, and released in 1984 through the Midnight Rock Label on the “Stormy Weather Riddim“. The single was also the opening track to his 1985 Album of the same name. In the song, Early B speaks on his adventures as a Ghost Buster as he saves the community of Yallahs, St. Thomas from a ghostly threat. Fearing nobody but Jah, he gets to work on eradicating the threat.
