#JaBlogDay Music: I-Noble – Mama Cry (Babylon Brutality)

INoble

In recognition of Jamaica Blog Day I present a post on the subject of Police brutality and abuse in Jamaica. In the Reggae/Dancehall culture the Law Enforcement has been an enemy to many and while their job is to “Protect and Serve“, many members of the Police force go against the creed and abuse their authority and make enemies out of the people who depend on them to bring order and justice in their communities. Many unlawful murders and imprisonments are the result and the tension between residents and Police increases at a rapid rate. The Police and their abuse has been a subject in many songs over the years but today I share a song by someone who experienced it including losing a family member. “Mama Cry” is a song done by singer I-Noble who resides in Trench town, one of the places where Police brutality has occurred over the years. In his song he speaks about the occurrences between residents and Police in inner-city communities on a regular basis, the effects of people that go through the situations, and how many corrupt Policemen collect accolades for their wrongdoings. Produced by Lanz and Christina Grand of Reggae Embassy, check out the song below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @IamAJamaican x Backbenchaz Season 1: Episode 1

Backbenchaz

Backbenchaz is a movement that aims to liberate the voice of the youth and aims to make the public more socially aware in an entertaining format. Today I feature the first video in their Youtube series which is in collaboration with IAmAJamaican. Hosted by Paula-Nicole Campbell and Chantelle Smith, they feature relationship advice, Jamaican culture, current events and many other features. They also Interview one of the top DJs in Jamaica, Zip 103 FM’s own ZJ Chrome. Here they talk about the climate in Dancehall Music, the DJ’s role, Vybz Kartel and his influence in music industry. Very entertaining video, I like how the youth are making moves to get their names on the frontline. Not many of us have the connections so we have to do it in our own way. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @ItsJahmiel_YVP – Never Give Up

Jahmiel

With positive lyrics and a great message, YVP singer Jahmiel dropped off the visual treatment for his single. Titled “Never Give Up” and directed by Jerome Hyde, we see the singer taking  a trod through communities while singing uplifting lyrics and ending up at Shocking Vibes studio with friends. Good video and song from the young singer, it was cool seeing him singing while sitting on the basketball hoop though. Check the message on the wall. Never give up. What do you think? Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
