Mavado Reminds Us That “God Nah Sleep”

Dancehall Artist Mavado has experienced a lot in his life. The past few years found him dealing with some bad times and loss, but he always believed that there was hope for better. Better came in the form of his son Dantay being freed from Prison earlier this year, and the reunion will be something very special. Regardless of all that happened, the Deejay reminds us that “God Nah Sleep” on his new single.

Produced by Chimney Records, Mavado stays strong in his faith despite what challenges come his way in, “God Nah Sleep”. He speaks on the plight that many Black people have gone through over the years, but provides the assurance that better days are near. In the Rizzy-directed Music Video, he shares clips of his son walking free from Prison, highlights that his former musical foe Vybz Kartel walking out to freedom as well, and shares news clips while providing strong messages throughout. The return of the “Gully God” to Jamaica seems farfetched due to his legal issues, but we look forward to the day he walks on the Jamaican pavement, reconnecting with his family, and enjoying home like never before. God nah sleep.

The 2000s in Dancehall Music was an era that can never be duplicated. There were local and International crossovers, the ascension of Deejays who went on to become legends, and lots of good vibes and energy. It was in the mid 2000s that the world warmed up to a young Producer by the name of Stephen McGregor. The son of the legendary Freddie McGregor was determined to carve his own path in music, and the determination won. When he got his start, there was no stopping him, and he made hits with everyone. From Mavado, to Vybz Kartel, to Laden, to Agent Sasco, to Nicky B, to his brother Chino McGregor, the world got familiar to the sounds of “Di Genius“. There’s a lot of history in that Big Ship Studio. The years that followed saw a shift in the music Industry as MP3s and CDs soon gave way to Digital Music Streaming, and a number of those Di Genius hits never crossed over. In 2024, after lots of work, Stephen has made it a reality with the release of “The Recovered Files” album.

Featuring 20 classic tracks, Di Genius restored some of our favourites from the 2000s on “The Recovered Files” compilation album. We get music from a Vybz Kartel who was in heading into a new level of prime, a young Aidonia who was venomous on a Riddim, Chino who found his pocket and cruised over his brother’s productions, the rise of the “Gully Gad” Mavado, a young firecracker that was Blak Ryno, and more. Fans will fall in love with the “Darker Shadow Riddim“, recite some Gaza Commandments, reflect on their allegiances to Gaza, Gully, and J.O.P., and enjoy the work of Di Genius over and over on their favourite streaming platform. We believe “The Recovered Files” will be the start of a series of restorations and releases in the coming months, and with Di Genius at the helm, we know it will be a celebration every time. This time, he’s building on an already solid foundation with his sophomore album, “Legacy“.

Whether you get the gyallis, hints of “Deablo“, or the StrikeForce Boss, “Legacy” has you covered for the Govana experience. Production on the album include the likes of Raheef Muzik Group, Crash Dummy Productions, Chimney Records, Emudio Records, Daseca, Hemton Music, and Attomatic Records, while Popcaan, Jada Kingdom, Skeng, Mavado, and Aidonia join in on some special selections. The Summer is around the corner, and there are two people who seek to own it. After not collaborating for a number of years, Mavado and Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor reunite for a new single that is bound to make plenty noise. They get things started in, “Bubble & Brace“.

For the ladies who know that they possess a special kind of beauty, and know how to be the centre of attention, Mavado and Di Genius have their sights set on you in “Bubble & Brace”. Inspired by 80s Pop Music, Di Genius provides the right sound that allows Mavado to reel the ladies in, and giving the people a hit for 2024. The “Gully Gad” and Di Genius never made a bad track, and we hope there are more collaborations in store. Everything comes to life with the help of Shane Creative for the Music Video, and it will have everyone staring especially at the lovely ladies featured. The “Gully Gad” Mavado returns with new music. The Deejay has been described as a column in Dancehall, and thanks to his catalogue, they’re not wrong about that. Despite all the hits, achievements, and milestones, there are many who still speak negatively about him. Nonetheless, he has some words for the haters on, “No Sorry“.

Produced by Son Son Productions and Mansion Records, Mavado is not sorry the way he is, and reflects on the times when he was at his lowest, crediting God for bringing him to the position where he’s successful. For the haters, he tells them that they can’t stop his progress, and they can say and do whatever, but he will always be moving forward, and dealing with their negativity in his own way. Mavado has been the topic of many negative news and smear campaigns over the years, but he continued to rise above the madness, and make efforts to better the life for himself and family, and the fans and supporters great music. Big up the “Gully Gad”.
