Rihanna had “Navy” Twitter in a frenzy when she released her 8th studio album, “Anti“. With a first single featuring Drake titled “Work“, Acmatic’s own Plateface decided to add some touches to the Boi1da produced track. Here he gave it a more Dancehall feel to compliment Rihanna’s delivery. This version sounds like something that if Rihanna’s people are watching (crosses fingers), they could use in a Jamaican street dance themed music video. Loved the original? I have my brother to thank for my full on re-introduction to Hip Hop. I have found myself pausing from my Soca binges to take in the occasional Hip Hop mix and this one by DJ Kam Bennett from Minnestoa is definitely a go to for me. He masterfully takes you through 2015’s best offerings.

The single, produced by Island Jams, features the two Artists stating that they won’t settle for less and men who want the world must can deliver at the same level. For them, it’s more than money but more about knowing their worth as many woman have given their all and in the end receive nothing. OLDIES SUNDAY: @GeneralDegree – Granny (1992)

Today’s Oldies Sunday is dedicated to my Grandmother who celebrated her 77th birthday recently, and your Grandmothers. This selection comes from General Degree and is titled “Granny“. “Granny” was produced by Lo Tech for Main St. Records in 1992 and features General Degree speaking on his many scenarios with his Grandmother and his intent on leaving her to live with his Mother. He highlights that Grandmothers tend to be very miserable and suggests that if you grew up with one, you’ll end up like her. Granny (played by Degree) also gets a chance to “ride” the Riddim as she complains about the price increase in food, her Grandson and his antics, and states that if things get worse she’ll migrate to the United States.

They say the present is a gift, so we must create lasting memories out of it. Reminding us of this is a best of both worlds collab between Machel Montano and Tarrus Riley! Titled “Memory” and produced by Anson Soverall with writing from Emmanuel Rudder, Dale Ryan and Kit Israel, the artists speak on cherishing the moments with your loved ones and though the advancements of technology enables us to quickly document them, are they more significant than the old fashioned way? A single that promises to be a mainstay for years to come, I really would look forward to an collaborative project between these two artists, and a Major Lazer remix. Make it last forever!
