OLDIES SUNDAY: The Blackstones – Best Love (1996)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from UK based Reggae trio, The Blackstones! We go back in time with them to check out their single, “Best Love“. Produced by Bernard Collins, this was released in 1996 through Prestige Records. The track is dedicated to that special person who holds your heart, and The Blackstones speak for us when they say, “Your love is the best love for me…“. With their soulful vocals and a Riddim that you can’t help but slow dance to, “Best Love” is one that deserves plenty spins.

“Best Love” was featured on the group’s 1996 album, “Riding High“, and was well received in the Lovers Rock scene in Jamaica and the UK. The song was sampled for US Rapper Action Bronson’s 2020 single, “Golden Eye” which was produced by Budgie. Formed in 1974, The Blackstones is a group that showcases beautiful harmonies, and raises the bar for vocal styles and sounds that were set by groups before them like The Techniques, The Gaylads, The Wailers, The Paragons, and many others. Originally consisting of brothers Leon, Neville, and Byron Leiffer, The Blackstones has made changes over the years as Neville and Byron left to pursue solo careers. They were replaced with Tony Douglas and Ken Kendricks in the 1980s. Since then, more changes were made, and the group now consists of Leon Leiffer, Tony Mahoney, and Junior Bailey. Some of their most notable work involved them working with the late Sir “Coxsone” Dodd at Studio One, Phil Pratt for Channel One Studios, and the late Bunny “Striker” Lee.

NEW MUSIC: @ActionBronson x @MeyhemLauren x Jah Tiger – Mr. 2 Face

Recently, US Rapper/Chef Action Bronson took to a trip to Jamaica. Known for his love of the Jamaican music, food and culture, he filmed an episode of his popular “F**k That’s Delicious” series there. During his time here, he also recorded a few tracks including today’s “Mr. 2 Face“. With guest appearances by fellow Rapper Meyhem Lauren and Reggae Artist Jah Tiger, Bronson and Meyhem traded bars while Jah Tiger breathed new life into an old track (unsure of the date he recorded it). An interesting collaboration from the trio as they mix Hip Hop with some good Reggae and deliver a chill vibe. You can catch Bronson, Meyhem and Jah Tiger in the latest episode of “F*ck That’s Delicious” on Viceland this week. Off Bronson’s upcoming “Blue Chips 7000” Mixtape, check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @ActionBronson x @Munchies – That’s Delicious Ep. 2

ABToday’s new video comes from the Rapper Action Bronson and Vice’s “Munchies” series. Titled “Fuck That’s Delicious!“, this is a Vlog that features Action’s culinary taste during his travels. A trained Chef prior to pursuing music, he starts off the video prepping one of his dishes for himself and friends. The video gets more interesting when he takes a trip to “Clive’s Cafe” in Miami Florida and exclaimed his love for Jerk Chicken, Curried Chicken, Oxtails, Patty and Coco Bread and Ting soft drink. He also gave praises to the Restaurant for their culinary skills. Further in the video he and his crew stopped at a BBQ Restaurant in Pennsylvania and expressed how the meal made him break out into the “Butterfly“, which was very popular in Dancehall circles. He also checked out meals in other places throughout his video and gave a tutorial in a couple of his meals. Fans of the rapper and Jamaican cooking will love this one. For those new to the series, Bronson is a character so he gets carried away with his words at times. Check it out below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
