OLDIES SUNDAY: @DawnPennMusic – No No No (1994)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from a great singer, Dawn Penn. Titled “No No No” and produced by Steely and Clevie, this is a remake of her 1967 single “You Don’t Love Me” which was produced by Sir Coxsone Dodd. Here she sings about lost love and going through the feelings of losing that loved one.

No No No” became a huge hit for Dawn Penn and became her signature song. It became a #1 song on the Jamaican Music charts and reaching as far as #3 on the UK Music charts. It also made it to the music charts in Japan, Canada, and many areas in Europe. The song was so popular that it has been sampled and covered by many artists including Jae Millz, Ghostface Killah, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Eve, and many others. Dawn Penn went on to release an album of the same name and included the hit, the album went on to receive a Grammy nomination.

Dawn Penn continued to release songs and albums over the years which includes her latest single called “City Life” and even though she hasn’t performed in Jamaica in years, her song still manages to be played on the radio and at dances. She currently resides in London where she still writes and performs.

Thank You Dawn Penn for your classic song.
