.@BujuBanton & @JohnLegend Reunite And Reflect On “Memories”

Since his release from prison in 2018, Jamaican Icon Buju Banton has been on a run. With performances and new music all 2019 and early 2020, Buju has been back like he never left. Today, he reunites with another musical icon, John Legend on “Memories“. It’s been 12 years since their collab, “Can’t Be My Lover“, and now their pairing is just as good as they reflect on past lovers who they still very much have feelings for. With Buju, Lenky Marsden, and Donovan Germain handling production, it’s a song that’s very relatable, and a showcase of two friends creating some great music.

“Memories” is featured on Buju’s upcoming album, “Upside Down“, which will see a release later this year through Gargamel Music/Roc Nation. Good to hear new Buju, and a reunion with John Legend. OLDIES SUNDAY: @BujuOfficial – Me Too Bad (2005)

If you’ve been unaware, Reggae/Dancehall Icon Buju Banton is finally a free man! Having done his time in Federal Prison, Friday December 7 became a day to remember when word got out that he would be making his triumphant return to Jamaica, and return to freedom. Today on Oldies Sunday, we salute the Gargamel’s  return with one of our favourites, “Me Too Bad” (o/c “Too Bad)! Produced by Leftside & Esco on the “Throwback Giggy Riddim“, Buju effortlessly rides the riddim as he flexes his rather uncanny ability to drive the ladies crazy and requesting his presence ever so often. With lyrics like “Outta road, nuff gyal a mad ova me“, and “Mi Babymada seh mi bad, mi too bad…“, you know Buju has a way with the ladies. The single was released through VP Records and quickly became a hot track in the streets. It was also featured on his 2006 album, “Too Bad“, and became his first #1 hit in years. With Gargamel’s newfound freedom, many fans are awaiting his return to the booth to unleash the tracks that will have the place in a frenzy, but for now we wish he takes as much time to rejuvenate himself and reconnect with society and loved ones. If you want to check out more Buju content, check out our Buju Samples article we did on his Birthday, the throwback “Love Sponge” for the lovers, and Lila Ike wanting to work with Buju as he’s an inspiration in an Interview with us. OLDIES SUNDAY: Buju Banton – Love Sponge (1997)

As we are facing the closing hours of this Valentine Weekend, there’s nothing like the oldies to add a finishing touch. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Mark Myrie a.k.a. Buju Banton and it’s dedicated to all the lovers. Titled “Love Sponge” and produced by Buju for Gargamel Productions in 1997, we hear Buju making a dedication to his lover. He goes on to detail how much she means to him, when they’re together they enjoy each other’s company, they make great things happen, and when they’re apart he gets miserable. With Buju’s infectious delivery, choice lyrics and a great production, this song went on to become one of Buju’s biggest hits and a song that’s made for couples when it’s time for a slow dance.
