The ongoing relationship with Dancehall Music and the Trap Music sub genre of Hip Hop seems to be a promising one. With influences from acts like Migos, Travis Scott, and Lil Uzi Vert to name a few, expect many established and upcoming acts to expand their creativity. Recently we featured a Mix from Jamaican Rapper Jermani and DJ Mac, and today we feature a visual from the single, “Why Me“. Shot and directed by Deth (a.k.a. “ShotByDeth“), Jerms fires off bars while his crew holds it down in the night. The Lo Flame production gives off an eerie sound fitting the video’s dark setting and makes you pay attention while Jerms tells you what his RUDE life is like. Why pree my G? You know him as the Wild Indian, the Wild Apache, the Don of all Dons, but he is also known as Super Cat! One of the legendary Deejays from Jamaica, Super Cat commanded the crowd, and ruled the airwaves. Today on Oldies Sunday (we’re back after a few months), we won’t highlight the hits, as you know them well, but refresh your memory or introduce to you International singles that featured the Don Dadda. Dem Nuh Worry We (Hip Hop Ragga Remix) ft. Heavy D. (1992)
Many know the original version over Dancehall production, but this Hip Hop version was a hit in the US clubs. Produced/Remixed by DJ Eddie F., the combination of Super Cat and the late Rapper/Producer Heavy D was a winner no matter what Riddim it rode! Me love mi Chicken and mi Goat well curry!
Dolly My Baby (Bad Boy Remix) ft. Mary J. Blige, 3rd Eye, Puff Daddy & Biggie Smalls (1993)
Super Cat was well respected in the Hip Hop crowd, and this remix is one of the few examples of that. Co-Produced by 3rd Eye and Puff Daddy who added verses, Mary J. Blige delivered the backing vocals and featured the debut recording of the late Biggie Smalls who was then unknown. A lot of history in one track as Mary went on to be the Queen of Hip Hop/R&B, Super Cat became a Dancehall legend, Puff Daddy went on to be one of the great Hip Hop CEOs, Biggie went on to be a legend in Hip Hop, and 3rd Eye, who was one of the first Hip Hop acts signed to Motown Records, and was argued to be the creator of the term “Bling Bling” (Lil Wayne was to argue that he coined the term in the late 90s with his single of the same name).
Creating an International appeal through the use of the social Inter web, the 13th Street Promo team took great pleasure in sitting and working with Royal Blu (Formerly “BluKid”) as one of its most incredible Interviews to date. After creating the right setting with Blvk H3ro and Leno Banton, it was only natural that we moved directly ahead to work directly with one of Jamaica’s budding prodigies. Let’s Begin…
13thStreetPromotions: Where does your talent come from? It resonates well with fans from what we’ve observed.
TheRoyalBlu: I’m the only one in my family that does music. The only one that I know of. So I’d like to believe that my talent is a direct gift from God. I’m just blessed to have people truly appreciate what I do.
13thSP: Have you gone through any voice training as an artiste?
TheRB: Yeah, I’ve done voice training up at Avant Acadamy of Music. Big up to Andrew Dixon for being my instructor. Although I skipped their end of year concert that they wanted me to perform at (haha). But yeah, apart from that, I just do my own personal warm-ups and stuff when I can.

It’s no secret that Hip Hop and Dancehall have been close siblings over the years. With the increasing popularity of the “Trap Music” genre, there have been more Artists crossing over to get a new audience and test out a new style in their craft. In Jamaica, it has seen its increase starting in late 2015 and newcomer Jermani aims to solidify his name out there with his “Pop Champagne Mix“. With DJ Mac overseeing, Jermani lets listeners in on his “Rude Boy Ting” lifestyle over various original and popular Production.
