Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Singer/Songwriter Diana King. Titled “Shy Guy” and produced by Andy Marvel in 1995, Diana sings about being a very desirable lady who all the men are eager for but would rather the affection from a “shy guy“. She speaks on refusing to be with a fly guy, a “rough neck” and a guy who’s “loving everybody” and details what she likes about a shy guy. In “Shy Guy” she delivered the song in English and Jamaican Patois.

Titled “Badman” and produced by La Toile Productions, we hear the artists talking about the gangster life through a blend of French and Jamaican Patois. Have you seen the new commercial VW released to promote their new vehicle? In the video an American mimicks the Jamaican accent and ideals and encourages his co-workers to smile and be happy. In addition to the release of the video, many people have been commenting about it and giving either positive reviews…or negative ones suggesting that it’s racist. I personally think it was rather funny and shed a positive light on us since many foreigners believe we are very violent people. Our little Island in the sun has become a BIG black green and gold sign for the world to take notice of. This was more than a present for celebrating 50 years of Independence.
