OLDIES SUNDAY: Carlene Davis x Ken Boothe – Why Me Lord (1992)

I hope today’s Oldies Sunday selection inspires you. Today’s selection comes from Gospel Recording Artist and Minister Carlene Davis, and Recording Artist Ken Boothe. We go back to 1992 with “Why Me Lord” which was featured on Carlene’s Gospel Reggae album, “Jesus Is Only A Prayer Away“, released by VP Records. A cover of Country Singer/Actor Kris Kristofferson’s 1973 single, Carlene and Ken joined forces, and their powerful voices to deliver this inspirational tune. The song was also covered over the years by the late Elvis Presley, the late Johnny Cash, Cece Winans, and the late Conway Twitty.

Get your prayers up. As the “Savage” Mixtape’s release draws near, Rapper Tazz of the High Tunez Gang released a new freestyle. Over Rick Ross’ “Money & Power“, Tazz delivers “On God“. Here he lets listeners in on what’s to come on the project, and lets the competition know he’s not playing around as he owns the production with his unique flow and a chock full of lyrics. Tazz even put the beat on timeout so he could rhyme acapella. You may need to rewind this a few times to catch the lines. Get your Rosary beads out. Today’s new video comes from Irie FM disc jock/Artist DJ Sunshine also known as Katrina. Titled “Why Worry” and directed by RD Studios, we see Katrina being one with nature and dropping positive lyrics about having no fear for Jah is by her side. Clean video by RD Studios and a great effort from Katrina as I had a liking for the song and just discovering that she was actually DJ Sunshine. Lamar Clan music! J Yungg today released highly anticipated music video for his popular single “Sinners Prayer“. Directed by G Dot Solo from Canada and shot in Grange Hill Westmoreland, J Yungg deejays that despite his sinning, he’s trying to do better and win at the same time. Very clean video and features cameos from Krish Genius, DJ Absolute of Linkz 96 FM, and Anita Baker of Elite Models (Angel). “I wanna turn my life over to God but I gotta get this money first”…That statement by comedian Mike Epps was the first thought I got when I heard this J Yungg track. Titled “Sinners Prayer“, J Yungg speaks on the hardships he goes through, the demons he faces and the risks he takes to make it in life. While he endeavours the fast life, he acknowledges his wrong doing but asks God for forgiveness as he’s trying to feed his family and acquire what he needs. He may be sinning, but he’s winning and just wants to do right. Good song, this is something for the people in the struggle.
