Among some of the acts included Morgan Heritage, Kymani Marley, Alpha Blondy and more. Here Alpha Blondy was featured for an Interview. Here he spoke about the significance of the Music Festival, the Reggae Music scene and the influences, Bob Marley’s impact, breaking the language barrier, upcoming projects, and more. Dropping a song today that’ll make you feel stronger than steel are the likes of Major Lazer, Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley. Titled “Powerful“, Ellie drops love lyrics while Tarrus assists with the chorus over a heavy ML production. I can picture Ellie and Tarrus performing this to a crowd in the thousands waving lighters or cell phone lights (video idea maybe?). Jo Jo’s Jerk Pit and More, an award winning family brand,has over the years captivated taste buds of its patrons with their mouth watering menu items, however they are now taking a step into unchartered waters, as they search for the next Jamaican singing sensation during their Raw Talent Competition.
The Competition will run from April 2 – June 27th.
According to Anna Chin, Owner of Jo Jo’s Jerk Pit and More, she conceptualized this series after working with dancehall group TOK on their event Blue Mountain Music Festival during which she fell in love with live music.
She further states, “I created this raw talent competition, so that I could take the raw talent from our Karaoke Thursdays event to our Live Music night on a Saturday while in our own small way contributing to the development of young and promising talent in Jamaica”.
Eliminations for the Raw Talent Competition happens each Thursday night in April at 10PM at Jo Jo’s Jerk Pit and More located on Waterloo Road; in Kingston. The weekly elimination format takes place during their very popular Karaoke Night, with contestants performing karaoke style, in front of a live audience. Performances are scored by a panel of celebrity judges who select two contestants to move on to the next round of the competition and a step closer to the first place cash prize of JMD$100,000 and an opportunity to perform in the finals with a live band.
The winner of The RAW TALENT COMPETITION will not only walk away with cash, but also have the opportunity to work with a Grammy award winning producer as well as receive a professionally produced music video.
The competition’s Second Place winner will receive a cash prize of JM$50,000 while Third place will receive JM$25,000.
