After previewing some message music earlier this year, Producer Salaam Remi continues to do it for the culture as he finally dropped his powerful new album, “Black On Purpose“. Featuring collaborations with numerous black voices in music, he tapped into Jamaica and enlisted Super Cat, Stephen Marley, Chronixx, and Spragga Benz!

Having featured Super Cat and Stephen Marley months prior with the tracks “Push Time” and “Is It Because I’m Black“, Salaam Remi sought those who could help to push great messages in the music as the “Black Lives Matter” movement strengthened this year as racial tension in various parts of the world are on the rise. Chronixx can be found on “Afrikan Children” with Black Thought, and Stephen Marley appears for a 2nd time on the album with the track “Black Progress” which features Spragga Benz. “Black On Purpose” follows up his early 2020 release of “Do It For The Culture 2” which features Red Rat, Stephen Marley, Buccaneer, Majah Hype, Wayne Wonder, Spragga Benz, Ghost, and many others.

We Look Back At The Many Versions Of The “Mad Mad Riddim” In Our Throwback Playlist!

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! A lot of things are going on in the world, but music is one that stays constant. Today in our #13thStreetThrowback Playlist series, we look back at a Riddim that has many names and variations, the classic “Mad Mad Riddim“!

We first go back to the year 1967 with the release of Alton Ellis’ “Mad Mad Mad” which was produced by the late Sir “Coxsone” Dodd for Coxsone Records, and that one song’s production lead to plenty versions over the years. From the “Junjo” Lawes produced “Mad Mad Riddim” that gave us the classic “Diseases” by Michigan & Smiley and “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” by Yellowman in the 1980s, to the infamous “Golden Hen Riddim” that gave us classics from Josey Wales, to Bobby Konders and Massive B’s “Platinum Hen Riddim” in 2011, to tracks that have sampled a version of the Riddim, this Playlist has it covered from familiar songs to rare cuts.

Trini Recording Artist Rayquan868 steps out as one of the many promising acts from the twin Island. With a few releases out, he has proven that he can tackle any beat given to him, and produce songs that will hold the audience. One of his 2020 releases that has caught the attention of many is the Trinibad single, “Badmind“, and today we check out the visual.

Directed by Gabriel Moore and released in part with Playmakers Entertainment, Rayquan868 lets us know that badmind can never stop his progress, and there will be consequences for those practice it against him and his team. Over the Cxdet and BT Records produced “Sicario Riddim“, Rayquan gives us melodic flows, and enough bars to let you know that he means business. Though Shav-A has been on the radar of many over the years thanks to her various releases, she is now set to make a huge impact on Jamaica’s music scene as well as well as making her mark around the world.

Released through G Shav Music, “Do It Like Me” finds Shav-A oozing confidence as she takes you on a musical ride, and by the end you all will agree that no one does it like her. With her soft and sensual vocals, and top production that complements the lyrics, Shav-A will grab your attention, as she turns up the heat and takes you into her private world.

The single is a follow up to the successful summer 2020 video release of her “Island Girl” track, and serves as a prelude to her debut EP, “It’s All About Love” with the first song scheduled for a late 2020 release and will feature the legendary Jamaican saxophonist, Dean Fraser. Produced by Felva, Popeye Caution and Splash Zanotti hit the block on the hunt for the loot! With Popeye kicking off the track with the catchy “Buddu bye bow…“, we get some Trap Dancehall vibes with Splash adding some extra badness. Expect this one to make some noise in the coming weeks.
