It’s about that time when couples wear matching red and white outfits, Flowers and Chocolate are bought, corny love lines are sent out, and every other Hotel is booked. Valentine’s Day is near, and you know the music will be showing up. Singer Tamika J is one of those Artists you’ll be hearing with her latest offering, “What’s Mine“. With Tamika’s vocals, don’t be surprised by the goosebumps, and the feeling like she’s singing directly to you. The song is a part of a roll out from Kris Karz as he looks to release more singles he has produced later this year, and kick off a new season of “Kngly Live” which is currently in production. Stay Home With Me: @HoodCelebrityy Remixes @FrenchMontana’s “Famous”!
Fame is a helluva drug, and it comes at a high price. While many wish to reach that larger than life level, sometimes it costs friendships, family, and even morals. Many who have done everything to achieve fame later regretted it. Tonight we’re not gonna get too preachy, it’s all about the music coming from Jamaican born, Bronx based, Hood Celebrityy. Grabbing the reigns of French Montana’s “Famous“, she tackles it with her blend of Dancehall/Hip Hop. Highlighting how people treat you when you’re famous, she adds that they’ll never love you as well as those who genuinely care for you. The track was produced by Rico Love, DTownThaGreat, and DanjaHandz, and the original is featured on French’s “Jungle Rules” Album. Previewed earlier on a few Radio stations locally and overseas, it was met with mostly positive reviews. Fame can really change a person, stay home with me. Check out the “Walking Trophy” Hood Celebrityy’s “Famous Remix” below!

Third World Meets Tuff Gong: Songs That Sampled @BobMarley & @ThirdWorldBand
February 6 marks the day two Reggae legends were born, Bob Marley, and Bunny Rugs. Bob Marley started out in Trench Town, and became a larger than life Icon while Bunny Rugs made his mark as a Solo Artist, and Lead Vocalist for one of Reggae’s most successful Bands, Third World. While many pay respects to them today, we’d like to look back at a few songs that further immortalized them through samples. Samples will come from Bob Marley’s solo singles, or with The Wailers, and from Third World Band during Rugs’ time. Enjoy!
1. Bob Marley & The Wailers – Johnny Was (1976)
Sampled on: Notorious B.I.G. – Hold Ya Head (2005)
2. Third World – Got To Get Along (1976)
Sampled on: Little Brother ft. Mos Def – Let It Go (2006)
OLDIES SUNDAY: Karen Smith – Wide Awake In A Dream (1986)
This Oldies Sunday selection is for the lovers, and it comes from the “Songbird from Jamaica“, Karen Smith! Today we go back to the year 1986 with “Wide Awake In A Dream“. Produced by Clifton “Jackie” Jackson, this was a cover of a single that has been sung by the likes of Barry Biggs, The Blues Busters, Jerry Jackson, Lyn Collins, Vickie Anderson, and Ken Boothe. Once she stepped into recording mode, Smith added her own flair to the track as she expresses how she feels about the love of her life. A video was also shot for this single, and it was directed by Alfonso Walker (I remember seeing this video a lot growing up on local TV).
Black Superheroes: We Look Back At Burning Spear’s “Great Men”
It’s February 1st, which means we’ve made it to another Black History Month. It is also the start of Reggae Month in Jamaica, and various parts of the world. While we look back at those who fought for the freedom of Black People, and celebrate those who continue the fight, we also look back at those who changed the game with their sound. Today we go back to 1990 with Reggae Icon Burning Spear and his tribute to the Black Superheroes, “Great Men (a.k.a. “Recall Some Great Men)“. Produced by Burning Spear and Nelson Miller, this was released through Mango Records, and featured on Spear’s 1990 Grammy nominated Album “Mek We Dweet“. In the song, Burning Spear roll calls some of the heroes who have contributed to the freedom of Black People worldwide. He starts off with the chorus, “Let’s recall some great men, who been fighting for our rights…“, and mentions the likes of Paul Bogle, Nelson Mandela, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr.
As we celebrate the month and those before us, let us also recognize those who are making strides and steadily making an impact in the world. Thanks for checking out the Blog, be sure to share with a friend, and follow us on Instagram! Hear the song below.
