We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @TheKhxos’ “Watch Yuh Frenz”

Before there was Khxos, before “Dopamine“, before “If God Was Like Man“, there was Khaos a.k.a. “King Squady“. In our 3rd post in our “Quick Throwback” series, we go back to the year 2010 to hear Khxos’ “Watch Yuh Frenz” track! Produced by Kris Beatz, Khxos gives us one of his earliest songs with a message as he advises listeners to watch who you affiliate yourself with in life. He warns against fake friends who smile in your face, and stab you in the back when the opportunity arises. Since his 2010 effort, Khxos has made a couple name changes, and has created a buzz for himself thanks to various singles over the years. He is currently working on the follow up to his 2017 debut album, “Dopamine“. Stay tuned for another throwback next week!

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @BlvkH3ro’s “Live This Life”

Before there was a “Blvk H3ro” and the locks, there was Hervin Bailey Jr., and today we go back in time with our new series, “Quick Throwback“! Looking back into H3ro’s first recorded release, “Live This Life“, this was produced by Leon-Pierre Answer for Mhadboxx Productions and released in 2014 (While it was written well before that). In the song he speaks on being fed up from not always having it, working hard for nothing, dreams, his experience with the 9 to 5 life, and shares encouragement throughout to those who are going through it. For those who are new to the Artist, you can hear him developing his signature sound here. The journey may be rough, but it takes a lot to get where you need to be. Black Superheroes: We Look Back At Burning Spear’s “Great Men”

It’s February 1st, which means we’ve made it to another Black History Month. It is also the start of Reggae Month in Jamaica, and various parts of the world. While we look back at those who fought for the freedom of Black People, and celebrate those who continue the fight, we also look back at those who changed the game with their sound. Today we go back to 1990 with Reggae Icon Burning Spear and his tribute to the Black Superheroes, “Great Men (a.k.a. “Recall Some Great Men)“. Produced by Burning Spear and Nelson Miller, this was released through Mango Records, and featured on Spear’s 1990 Grammy nominated Album “Mek We Dweet“. In the song, Burning Spear roll calls some of the heroes who have contributed to the freedom of Black People worldwide. He starts off with the chorus, “Let’s recall some great men, who been fighting for our rights…“, and mentions the likes of Paul Bogle, Nelson Mandela, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr.

a16dxzGiven that today is “Throwback Thursday” for some, why not bring my readers back in time with one of Vybz Kartel’s last performances before being apprehended by the law. Performing at Reggae Sumfest 2011, Vybz, along with Sheba, Popcaan, Gaza Slim, Tommy Lee Sparta, and Shawn Storm, performed a slew of hits and brought a lot of energy to the event.
