OLDIES SUNDAY: Mutabaruka – Garvey (1994)

Today, August 17, marks the 138th birthday of National Hero, Leader, Teacher, Activist Marcus Mosiah Garvey. It was only right that we paid tribute to him on “Oldies Sunday“. Today we go back in time to check out Dub Poet/Media Personality Mutabaruka’sGarvey“.

Produced by Philip “Fatis” Burrell and Augustus “Gussie” Clarke and released through the Shanachie label in 1994, Mutabaruka paid tribute to Marcus Garvey, and called for Black Pride in, “Garvey”. In a time where many forgot about the teachings of Garvey, it was Poets like Muta who helped to bring back the consciousness to the forefront. Muta calls for the help of Garvey during the times that were filled with negativity, corruption, and ideologies that will bring down the moral fabric of the world. With the help of Ishama Hope, Princess Addisa, and Princess Tsobbe, we hear the words “I’m black and i’m proud!” as a part of the hook throughout. Marcus Garvey’s teachings called for the uprising of the Black people, an appreciation for the Melanin skin, and an outlook where the Black Man should be in positions of power, overcoming all the trials and tribulations that they have experienced, and what may come. “Garvey” was featured on Mutabaruka’s 1994 album, “Melanin Man“.

Mutabaruka continues to share the teachings of Marcus Garvey through a number of releases, and through his Radio programme, “The Cutting Edge” on Jamaica’s Irie FM.

Happy Birthday Marcus Garvey! Thank You Mutabaruka!

.@SkipMarley Charges With New Single, “In Our Sight”

It’s a new music Friday, and Recording Artist Skip Marley will have your attention with this one. When he wasn’t taking his music to the stage, he was busy recording, and securing collaborations with other Artists. He’s ready for more, and he steps up with the new single, “In Our Sight“.

Produced by Supa Dups and released through Def Jam Records, Skip Marley moves forward with the new single, “In Our Sight”. In a time when people are experiencing hardships and difficulties, Skip wants the people come together and fight for a cause. He goes against those who wield the blade of corruption, who torment the people with oppression, and calls for us to fight back and claim what’s ours. “In Our Sight” is for the future leaders and fighters, the ones who know what’s right, and will endeavour to fix things. The new single samples Dennis Brown’s 1973 single “Westbound Train“, which was produced by Niney The Observer, which also sampled Al Green’s 1972 single, “Love And Happiness“. Victory is in our sights, it’s time to step up and revolt!

Peaches Adaba Protects Her Reputation In “One & Only”

Recording Artist Peaches Adaba has been working hard this year, and she’s not slowing down. She scored big with a few singles and an EP, and has been securing bookings locally and overseas, with ambitions to do even more. Earlier, she released her latest single, “One & Only“.

Produced by Good Good Productions, Peaches Adaba stands alone, and stands by what she knows is right in, “One & Only”. While many Woman seek to be a part of the crews and cliques, with their names being a part of drama and gossip, Peaches would rather have her name in things that matter. Reputation is everything, and she prefers to not be a part of non-progressive ideals. She desires balance in her life, privacy, her corner being skeleton free, and peace. Making the connection with Good Good Productions makes for a great release, and may make way for even more collaborations with Adaba Entertainment. Will “One & Only” be your anthem?

Devin Di Dakta vs Masicka on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Dancehall #Music #13thStreetPromotions #Masicka #DevinDiDakta #Beef #Clash #ShaneSkull #Wirebrain #1Syde #Crocs #StMary #Portmore #Caribbean

Devin Di Dakta Vs Masicka: Who’s Winning The Beef?

War is in the air they say, and if you’re tuned into the Dancehall scene, you know tensions are brewing up. If you haven’t been paying attention, Dancehall Artist Devin Di Dakta has made some moves recently in calling out fellow Dancehall Artist Masicka. Both Artists have been at odds since the 2010s, and recently things have started to heat up with Devin sending shots, and following up with songs. Masicka however has not answered, but his affiliated Artists Shane Skull and Wirebrain stepped up to defend the turf with their tracks. It’s currently a 1 vs 2 sparring match, but it has been rumoured (or assumed, you know how these platforms are…) that Masicka has been preparing songs in retaliation.

While we’re not the hub for all things beef, we’ve decided to observe the proceedings in hopes that this will be a spectacular display of lyrical engineering, with no major harm to either Artist (we remembered what happened to Devin Di Dakta years ago). Today, we want to know, who are you rooting for in this battle? Devin has been holding his own against Shane Skull, showing that he’s dedicated to the craft. With songs like “Church Mouse“, “Hatchling“, and “3 Little Crocs” garnering some attention online, we await what’s next in this saga, and we hope it’s not (mostly) one sided.

Who Will Win The Beef? Devin Di Dakta? Or Masicka?
