@Protoje Puts A Red Alert On Injustice With “Blood Money”!

Protoje really had our attention in 2016.

With the release of his “Royalty Free EP”, appearances at Coachella, his launch of the “New Wave” concert series, and other various happenings, people are still asking if he’s dropping a follow up to the outstanding “Ancient Future” album anytime soon. While no word on that yet, Protoje has been feeling a lil on the crimson side late last year and it now manifests itself as his 2017 debut single, “Blood Money“.

As Winta James did profoundly handling production of this extremely new track, Protoje sees BLXXD in his eye as he lifts the covers off of Corruption, Classism and the Injustice in Jamaica. On the Island, certain names can get you very far. Whilst on the flipside those very names could have been a part of illicit activities back in the day. It is so very important that we have someone like Diggy who understands the root cause of all this injustice that faces Jamaica and is able to express it so well musically. The revolution is nigh!

It’s a Caribbean connection when Trinidad’s Soca King Machel Montano teams up with Jamaica’s Diamond selling Dancehall Artist Charly Black and top Producer Troyton Hinds for “VIP Girl”! Bringing two musical giants in their respective genres together was something the Billboard Producer Troyton envisioned for a long time. The single was recently released under the Troyton Music label, and distributed by 21st Hapilos.
When asked about making the collaboration a possibility, Troyton recalls being invited to Trinidad along with Charly for a staging of “Machel Mondays” in February of 2016. During their rehearsals, the trio had a conversation about music and their successes in Dancehall and Soca when Troyton suggested Charly and Machel team up for a song. With approval from both sides, Troyton quickly worked on a Riddim after his arrival back to Jamaica. Soon after, Troyton reached out to Charly for his verses which were recorded in Jamaica, then reached out to Machel who worked on his in Trinidad.
Since its release earlier this month, the single has been constantly requested from DJs and fans alike both locally and Internationally. A music video is in the works with directorial duties being handled by Damion Gayle of Warrior Films with Trinidad and Jamaica being the locations chosen. When asked what makes a “VIP Girl”, Troyton replied, “A woman who possesses class, intelligence, and the right amount of sexiness!”.
“VIP Girl” is now available on iTunes.

It’s no secret that Hip Hop and Dancehall have been close siblings over the years. With the increasing popularity of the “Trap Music” genre, there have been more Artists crossing over to get a new audience and test out a new style in their craft. In Jamaica, it has seen its increase starting in late 2015 and newcomer Jermani aims to solidify his name out there with his “Pop Champagne Mix“. With DJ Mac overseeing, Jermani lets listeners in on his “Rude Boy Ting” lifestyle over various original and popular Production. He recently spoke on his debut project stating that it’s his way of bringing a unique sound to the game, showing listeners that he can be versatile in subject matter, and aims to stand out not only in the Jamaican Hip Hop scene, but worldwide.
