Jula Fatstash Takes Care Of Business On “Banga Phone” Single

Dancehall Artist Jula Fatstash seeks to make 2022 a year where he takes his career to the next level, and make his name expand to more platforms and speakers around the world. Based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, he took a brief hiatus to make necessary adjustments in his game plan, so his return finds him becoming more consistent in his releases, and expanding his creativity. Now with a fresh start, he steps out with the release of his new single, “Banga Phone”.

Produced by Damien C and released through BassHall Records, Jula Fatstash shows off his lyrical prowess on “Banga Phone”. Utilizing the “Shatta Style” of Dancehall made popular on the Island of Martinique, Jula not only displays witty lyricism on “Banga Phone”, but handles the production effortlessly, and gives us a song that is also catchy. Fatstash expects “Banga Phone” to become a fixture in various spaces after its release, giving him a greater audience and buzz for follow up releases. Accompanying the “Banga Phone” single, is a music video directed by Paravizy, marking it Jula Fatstash’s first piece of visual content for the year. He is also expanding his digital presence by releasing a Fatstash NFT in conjunction with the Solana Blockchain. 2022 promises to be a content heavy year for Jula Fatstash, and he looks forward to support in all forms throughout.

2022 may have started off in a not so great way (Covid is doing numbers still, stay safe!), but we give thanks for new music, right? Making a splash here today, is the combination of Dancehall star Shenseea, and US Rapper Megan Thee Stallion as they deliver a song that will stir up a few conversations. Today we hear the track, “Lick“.

A collaboration that was anticipated since the two met, Shenseea and Megan Thee Stallion made a bold step with the release of “Lick”, which was produced by Murda Beatz. With the topic of Oral Sex still finding its balance in Jamaica, the ladies made it very clear what they require from their lovers on the track. Shenseea borrows the hook from Trini Icon Denise Belfon’s “Work”, which was remixed and became very popular on Social Media thanks to a series of wining videos. While the song may rub some the wrong way, others may just find this to be a great addition to their Playlists.

As Shenseea continues to find her place on the International market thanks to collabs with Tyga, Masego, and Kanye West, and various celebrities endorsing her, expect “Lick” to become more than trending topic on Twitter. This isn’t Meg’s first collab with Caribbean Artists as she previously joined Popcaan on “Intercourse“, and Cardi B on the infamous “WAP” single. How about iShawna on the remix?

Make sure you’re working towards your finances when you hear today’s Oldies Sunday selection. Today, we take a trip to the UK to check out Louise Gold and Michelle Charles a.k.a. Ragga/Soul duo Louchie Lou and Michie One’s “Rich Girl“.

Released through Fashion Records in 1993 (originally 1992 with Sly & Mafia’s “Riot” on the B Side) on the “Fever Pitch Riddim“, “Rich Girl” was Louchie Lou and Michie One’s debut single. The track was inspired by the 1964 track “If I Were A Rich Man” from the “Fiddler On The Roof” Musical. The track found Louchie and Michie sharing lyrics about getting out of Poverty and what they’d do if they were wealthy, but also share that no matter how much money they’d have, they’d never change who they truly are, and money can’t buy love and happiness. “Rich Girl” helped to get Louchie Lou and Michie One’s name out there, but wasn’t an instant hit for them.

Since the release of “Rich Girl”, they duo went on to find chart success, and release albums until they disbanded in 2000. In 2004, American Pop star Gwen Stefani and American Rapper Eve sampled “Rich Girl” for their single, “Rich Girl“, which was produced by Dr. Dre. It went on to become a multiplatinum success.

Kicking off the new year with music is Producer/Recording Artist Kris-Karz! While he made a return to music releases late last year, he’s ready to take his career to the next level. With a project seeing a possible release later this year, Kris is setting up for a great rollout. Still relatively new to the scene as a Recording Artist, he is leaving great impressions with every song. We hope it doesn’t change with the release of the track, “Reciprocation“.

Turning up the tempo on this one, Kris-Karz gives us some slick lyrics paired with some jammin’ production that Musicians Keshawn Allen and Coombs assisted with (inspired by late Rapper Mac Miller’s “Self Care” album and made at Producer J.L.L.’s house) that is sure to make him stand out this year. Kris isn’t your average Producer, so you’re not gonna expect nothing less as an Artist. With lyrics that find him going through the adventures of love and relationships (with some back seat action going on), listeners will relate to this one, and definitely show it a lot of love. It’s the first Oldies Sunday post for 2022! Happy New Year to all the regulars tuning in. For our first post, we go back to the early 2000s to check out a classic. Today’s selection comes from the “World Boss” Vybz Kartel, and his track, “New Millennium“.

Produced by Donovan “Vendetta” Bennett a.k.a. Don Corleonie and Shiah Coore on the “Mad Ants Riddim“, this was released through Don Corleon Records in 2002. Featuring Dancehall Artist Wayne Marshall, Vybz Kartel displayed superb delivery and lyricism on “New Millennium”. He opened with the iconic line, “Inna mi Karl Kani, wid a bottle a tall Canei, tuff a life?”, and Wayne Marshall showed that he had a great career ahead of him when he delivered the hook/chorus. This great collaboration became an overnight hit for Vybz Kartel, a first in his career, and made way for his transition from upcoming Artist, to one of the greatest Dancehall Artists to ever do it. “New Millennium” was featured on Vybz Kartel’s 2003 debut album, “Up 2 Di Time“.

Since “New Millennium”, Vybz Kartel made more hits, got caught up in various controversies, held a #1 spot that became the envy of others, influenced many the world over in countless ways, and is a top name despite being currently incarcerated. No matter what, people will never forget “New Millennium” as it’s still a staple in many mixes, and Dancehall events 20 years later.
