Before there was Kabaka Pyramid the global Reggae artist with many thought provoking hits, there was Kabaka Pyramid the Rapper who could hit you with plenty bars with ease. While Hip Hop definitely influenced his Reggae career, seeing him collaborate with some of his faves gives us a proud feeling. Today, he joins LA Hip Hop artist R-Mean and the legendary Method Man of the Wu-Tang Clan on the track, “Circus“.

Produced by the legendary Scott Storch, the trio go bar for bar as they each show off their distinct style, and make it known that they have no time for clown business or anything that can tarnish their standards. We recall times where Kabaka Pyramid would freestyle or remix one of his songs over Wu-Tang Clan beats, and since then he has collaborated with members Raekwon and Method Man. Many may not understand it, but this collaboration is a big one. Big up Kabaka Pyramid, R-Mean, Method Man, and Scott Storch!

Kingston based Record label DZL Records continues to put out quality music for the world to enjoy. With success in 2019 and most of 2020 so far, the label looks to keep the energy up moving forward. The Dale “Dizzle” Virgo founded label was started in 2012, and has been responsible for producing hits with Christopher Martin, Kim Nain, Chronixx, and Ikaya to name a few. With new releases from Saine and Scantana, DZL Records wants to close out the year in style.

Scantana is the first to step out with the release of “Goodie Goodie”. A song directed at the ladies, it finds Scantana putting together catchy lyrics, producing melodic flows, and cleverly weaving the names of 39 beautiful Jamaican women, and International celebrities throughout. Overall, Scantana’s aim with “Goodie Goodie” was to make the ladies feel good, further boost their confidence, and recognize their beauty in every way. “Goodie Goodie” was premiered on New York’s Hot 97 through the legendary Bobby Konders and Jabba, in various elite African Radio stations, and is the first single off of his upcoming EP with Dale “Dizzle” Virgo. Born Kibwe Lawrence in Central Kingston’s ”Tel Aviv” area, Scantana is a Rapper, Motivational Speaker, Actor, and Screenplay Writer. He found a love for music at an early age, wrote his first song at the age of 12, and went on to make a name for himself in New York’s South Bronx neighbourhood, and in Jamaica. He has shared the stage with the likes of Ma$e, Foxy Brown, SWV, and many others, and has collaborated with the likes of Anthony Red Roze, PseudoKhule, Serani, and Bugle.

Saine follows the release of new singles with the track, “Peace Of Mind”. An upbeat Reggae track produced by Dale Virgo, Saine focuses on Mental Health here as she encourages everyone to find their peace, and protect it. With the world experiencing the Covid 19 pandemic, Mental Health is something that is being greatly affected, and Saine provides comfort and relief at this time through music. “Peace Of Mind” will be featured on Saine’s upcoming EP. Born Saine Rapley in St. Andrew, she believes in putting in the work to become great. With a few years in, she has blessed listeners with a powerful voice through her many releases, and has recently collaborated with Spragga Benz on his chart-topping “Chiliagon” album, and International Author Gregory David Roberts’ upcoming “Love And Faith” album.

Jamaica UK The Blackstones Music 13thStreetPromotions 13thStreetPromo Best Love Riding High 1996 Oldies Oldies Sunday Caribbean Leon Leiffer Byron Leiffer Neville Leiffer

OLDIES SUNDAY: The Blackstones – Best Love (1996)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from UK based Reggae trio, The Blackstones! We go back in time with them to check out their single, “Best Love“. Produced by Bernard Collins, this was released in 1996 through Prestige Records. The track is dedicated to that special person who holds your heart, and The Blackstones speak for us when they say, “Your love is the best love for me…“. With their soulful vocals and a Riddim that you can’t help but slow dance to, “Best Love” is one that deserves plenty spins.

“Best Love” was featured on the group’s 1996 album, “Riding High“, and was well received in the Lovers Rock scene in Jamaica and the UK. The song was sampled for US Rapper Action Bronson’s 2020 single, “Golden Eye” which was produced by Budgie. Formed in 1974, The Blackstones is a group that showcases beautiful harmonies, and raises the bar for vocal styles and sounds that were set by groups before them like The Techniques, The Gaylads, The Wailers, The Paragons, and many others. Originally consisting of brothers Leon, Neville, and Byron Leiffer, The Blackstones has made changes over the years as Neville and Byron left to pursue solo careers. They were replaced with Tony Douglas and Ken Kendricks in the 1980s. Since then, more changes were made, and the group now consists of Leon Leiffer, Tony Mahoney, and Junior Bailey. Some of their most notable work involved them working with the late Sir “Coxsone” Dodd at Studio One, Phil Pratt for Channel One Studios, and the late Bunny “Striker” Lee.

Hip Hop Artist Dave East has been one of the more consistent voices in the genre in the past few years, and has always delivered. With a slew of mixtapes, he has always had some tricks up his sleeve for the listening public. On his latest project, “Karma 3 (Deluxe)“, he tapped into his Caribbean side with collaborations from Jamaica’s own Popcaan, and the legendary Junior Reid.

On “Unruly” featuring Popcaan, Dave East and the Unruly Boss do some damage over the CitoOnTheBeat production. From Dave namedropping “Shottas“, Buju Banton, Vybz Kartel, and Super Cat, to dropping badness on the beat, to Popcaan delivering melodic lyrics, you can’t play this one on a low volume. On “Badness” featuring Junior Reid, Dave jumps on the Sool Got Hits and ATG Musick produced banger while Junior Reid gives us his signature sound that has stood the test of time. Both Popcaan and Junior Reid are no strangers to these collaborations, but it’s always a good time when they find themselves taking over an International artist’s track.
