On International Reggae Day not only do we celebrate Reggae Music, but celebrate the lives of many who contributed to the genre. One artist who is celebrated today is the late Dennis Emmanuel Brown. Known as the “Crown Prince of Reggae“, Dennis Brown was a top tier Reggae artist who created beautiful songs that captured the hearts of many and influenced many upcoming artists. Having passed away on July 1, 1999, I use today to highlight one of his many concerts. Backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band, Dennis Brown had great stage presence and commanded the attention of patrons. Celebrate International Reggae Day with the Crown Prince of Reggae! In recognition of the late Garnett Silk’s birthday (April 2), I post today one of his last performances. With uplifting, positive and conscious lyrics, Garnett Silk was a well respected Reggae artist and an influence to many in his short life. With a plethora of hits, Silk had what it takes to get the people thinking, coming together and enjoying music. R.I.P. Garnett Silk. Shaggy really had the vision. With Tessanne’s recent success, it’s only right that we hear Shaggy’s take on all this with Onstage. Here Shaggy spoke on being a part of Tessanne’s decision to enter The Voice, her win, the future of her career, and of course his upcoming staging of his “Shaggy and Friends” concert. Short but a good interview, I really commend Shaggy on seeing the good in artists and being able to help them achieve success. With the Bustamante Hospital For Children seeing 50 years since its existence and Tessanne being a headliner, this concert shall be an unforgettable one. As a teaser for the upcoming PayAttention show on Saturday November 30 at Club Indulge in Kingston, the acts slated to perform made a cypher session. Over Drake’s “Pound Cake” instrumental, Miguel James, Rseenal, Illicit King, and France Nooks all traded some of their many bars they have in their arsenal. Definitely worth many replays, they spit lyrics. Do support the event as we have many talented individuals that have been given the platform to show and prove.
