Time is moving fast, we were just enjoying the work of art that is “Royalty Free: Side B“. A project made by Recording Artist Protoje, this was released on his Birthday on June 14, 2016 via his Soundcloud page. @DelhiSultanate Uses Reggae For Political Activism In India

While your favourite Artist may be using Reggae/Dancehall creatively (or stupidly) in Jamaica, the influence of the Music Culture continues to affect many others worldwide. One person in particular is Taru Dalmia a.k.a. “Delhi Sultanate” of New Delhi, India, as he uses not only Reggae, but the Sound System Culture to channel his Political Activism. While India is under the rule of the Hindu Nationalist Government lead by Narendra Modi (Bharatiya Janata Party), Taru alleges that free speech is being threatened under his rule, and using his talents will assist the many protests that are being held in many Universities across the nation. Armed with classic singles, and Dub Plates from the likes of Toots Hibbert, Barrington Levy, and Anthony B, he hopes that his assistance in the fight will not be in vain.

Taru is also a member of The Ska Vengers, a live Band that blends Dub, Pop, Ska, Jazz, Rap, and Punk to deliver a new sound. Below is a clip from the Al Jazeera Network where we look into Taru’s journey, and the challenges he has faced so far. We also feature some of the singles that could spark protests, and some that speak against the Jamaican Government.

We Big Up Reggae’s Continued Progress On “13th Street Rants” Ep.: 2.5

When the music hits you, you feel no pain, right? Reggae Music continues to win more hearts over the past few decades. With its many sub genres, fans are treated to all sorts of talent and we hear many songs that can stand the test of time. With Jamaican acts like Protoje, Morgan Heritage, Tarrus Riley, and many more touring the world and sharing our art, we can’t help but demand its sibling Dancehall to step up its game. Again, we love Dancehall, but we need to see it doing just as well as the big sibling. Tune in to our rant below, and share your thoughts!

It’s Time To “Puff, Puff, Pass” With Our 4/20 Soundtrack!

Happy 4/20! If you’re unfamiliar with the 20th of April, then you definitely need to be outside more (haha). Every year Stoners celebrate the day of consuming enormous amounts of Marijuana. Coined in 1971 by “The Waldos” during their attempt to locate an abandoned Cannabis crop, the day is celebrated worldwide, and everyone is invited! To help your celebration, we’ve provided 11 weed songs that you’ve either never heard of before, or haven’t heard in a long time. Enjoy, and save a spliff for me!

1. Sizzla – Smoke Your Herb (2006)

2. Elephant Man x Mr. Vegas – Bun It (1999)

REVIEW: @Protoje’s “For The Culture” Event + Highlights

The Hope Gardens Shell Bandstand served as the perfect backdrop to showcase some of Reggae’s young royals to an eager audience of Locals and Tourists all with one thing in common…a love for the Culture. I personally gave up on Music in Jamaica until I came across these new school of Reggae Royals who through their socially conscious offerings, give honour to the many men and women who preceded them in the genre…

The gates opened at 7:30 Pm and the DJ for the night Yaadcore kept the early patrons entertained on the turntables, and DJ Jimmy Q of NewsTalk 93 FM handled hosting duties. By 9 Pm, the venue was almost full and the show kicked off with the opening act Sevana. Featuring cuts off her Sevana EP and even debuting a new song and a remix to Protoje’s “Love Gone Cold” (she was featured on the original), she had the audience mesmerized as she belted out tune after tune. I still refused to believe she did all that on a sore throat (Editor’s Note: She’s my Hero!!). By the time ZJ Sparks gave Protoje & The Indiggnation the greatest introduction ever, the venue was packed with patrons who were eager to sing and dance along with them.

@Protoje Puts A Red Alert On Injustice With “Blood Money”!

Protoje really had our attention in 2016.

With the release of his “Royalty Free EP”, appearances at Coachella, his launch of the “New Wave” concert series, and other various happenings, people are still asking if he’s dropping a follow up to the outstanding “Ancient Future” album anytime soon. While no word on that yet, Protoje has been feeling a lil on the crimson side late last year and it now manifests itself as his 2017 debut single, “Blood Money“.

Words by @Sef_Jo x @SwadeDaVillain

As Winta James did profoundly handling production of this extremely new track, Protoje sees BLXXD in his eye as he lifts the covers off of Corruption, Classism and the Injustice in Jamaica. On the Island, certain names can get you very far. Whilst on the flipside those very names could have been a part of illicit activities back in the day. It is so very important that we have someone like Diggy who understands the root cause of all this injustice that faces Jamaica and is able to express it so well musically. The revolution is nigh!
