I have my brother to thank for my full on re-introduction to Hip Hop. I have found myself pausing from my Soca binges to take in the occasional Hip Hop mix and this one by DJ Kam Bennett from Minnestoa is definitely a go to for me. He masterfully takes you through 2015’s best offerings.

1. Epiphany Promo Mix – Team Energy Overload (Colombian x DJ Captain John)

This Mixtape is straight out of Vincy! One of St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ hottest teams puts their musical genius into this 28 mins party promo mix. Mixed by DJ Captain John and hosted by Colombian, it is the perfect sample of what promises to be an amazing showing by the duo in St. Lucia this weekend.

2. I Love Soca, Jamaica Promo Mix – Lord Hype

This promo mix is the preview of what patrons should expect on December 26 at Hope Gardens. Lord Hype (straight out of Trinidad) delivers a high energy Soca mix featuring some of the hottest 2015 Soca releases! This mix has me well ready for I Love Soca!

His calm demeanor is no telltale as to what he can do with a turntable. DJ Dono V is a young gun who is packing some serious DJing ammo and this mix is just an extension of his crowd rocking club DJing skills.

2. CHILL END OF 2015 – Ruan Legend of Dei Musicale

Some of 2015’s best hits found their way on this mix by ½ of the Trinidadian Musical Gods’ Dei Musicale. My favourite tracks are the Black Chiney x Sizzla Kalonji “Hotline Bling” Remix and of course Major Lazer x DJ Snake’s “Lean On”.

  1. Yuma Sweet Summer – DJ Charlotte

DJ Charlotte is one of Trinidad & Tobago’s hottest DJs. This release coincided with the 2016 YUMA Carnival Band launch for Trinidad Carnival and it is a sweet mix indeed. The perfect confectionary of Soca, Dancehall, Hip Hop and Top 40 hits. Released 2 Months ago on her Sound Cloud, it is a favourite for me!

  1. Dance 101 Podcast Episode 1 – DJ Puffy

Those who know me well know that I love EDM as much as I love Soca and Dancehall! Barbados’ finest (To me definitely), DJ Puffy goes in hard with this EDM mix. I literally feel like I am at Tomorrowland or some other huge EDM festival just listening to this high energy mix.

  1. Chromatic Way – DJ Heavy D & DJ Shantonio from Chromatic

Taking it back to yard (never stray far from my roots)this time around, this mixtape showcases the talents of 2 members of one of Jamaica’s hottest Sound Systems, Chromatic. This mix of some of the hottest Top 40, Hip Hop and Dancehall hits and numerous Dub samples is an eargasmic treat.

Mixtape Rave With @Shanny_14

Today I introduce the first in a new series titled “Mixtape Rave“. Hosted by Blogger Shannydelioness, she scours the Internet to bring to you some of the mixtapes she has been feeling over the past week. Please note that Shanny is a Soca Junkie and there’s a chance your favourite DJ’s mix might be featured. Tune in.

1. Bienvenido A Miami – DJ Private Ryan

Sweet Soca at its finest prepared for the Miami Carnival Warm Up by one of Trinidad & Tobago’s best DJs. DJ Private Ryan’s mixes renewed my love affair with Carnival so of course they are a must listen for me. I love the mix of Soca artistes from T&T, St. Lucia, and all the other islands in between.

2. Summer Festa 2015 – Dei Musicale

This mix starts off with one of my favourite songs, Lean On (ft. MO) – Major Lazer & DJ Snake which ushers in some of 2015’s hottest Dancehall, EDM, Soca and ending with the hottest Hip Hop selections.

I have Youtube’s search engine to thank for discovering DJ Puffy’s musical genius (my Tunein app is stuck on Slam 101 every evening so I have the chance to listen to his show).  This promo mix is PURE VIBES!
