Summer is almost here, and that means road trips, parties, and new clothes. Recently, clothing giant H&M unveiled a new commercial launching their “Forever Summer” campaign. Providing the soundtrack was UK Recording Artist Izzy Bizu who covered Jamaican band Inner Circle’s 1993 single, “Sweat“. The single was featured on the band’s 1992 Grammy winning “Bad To The Bone” album and was a number 1 song in many countries including Ireland, Austria, and Germany. “Sweat” was also sampled by Laza Morgan for “One By One“, and Jamie T’s “If You Got The Money“. Something new courtesy of Ras-I, Almando Douglas and Zosia McGregor. Reviving the 1978 classic, “Satisfy My Soul” by Bob Marley, the stage is set for an acoustic performance from the three. With a mellow vibe and soulful delivery from Ras-I, it’s no surprise when there are comparisons to the original “Gong“. Canadian based recording artiste, K-Anthony has released a new single geared for a global breakthrough. The song has an international, pop sound and critics believe this is definitely a single to watch. “Billboard” is the title of the track produced by Dwain “Wiya” Campbell of Barbwiya Music. It sends a comprehensive message that you may not achieve the success and recognition that most would do anything to acquire, however there are other achievements that more meaningful and of even greater value.
The urban-gospel singer said, “Initially in my career my main aim was to be the epitome of Gospel music. Getting on the world renowned Billboard charts. I had a redefining moment in my life, while writing this song. My focus shifted from self to total surrender to God’s will. My musical passion became bigger than just getting on to charts. My new goal was to be a billboard for what I believed in. I yearn to remind Christians that being a billboard is their duty. We are the living advertisement for salvation and grace. The spirit of Jesus within us, should shine for the world to see.”
When you listen to this record you can clearly hear the influence of R &B music, particularly of Boyz to Men and Brian McKnight. They played integral roles in the defining moments for K-Anthony, encouraging him to select the musical path he travels today. His new album also titled, “Billboard” is due to hit music stores this May.
K-Anthony, given name Kevin Fowler is a former instructor of music at Northern Caribbean University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and an Associates degree in Mass Communication. You know Jamaicans would scoop this up. Comedian/Recording Artist Andrew Trabass teamed up with Dancehall Artist Khaos to deliver the “One Dance Remix” on 4/20! With Sean Alaric adding his Production to this, they give Drake’s hit single a a face lift as they bring the Dancehall tinged single home and added the Jamaican flavour. Feeling like it’s 1995 again, “Mr. Lover Lover” a.k.a. Shaggy, had a song featured in one the latest commercials for US Banking giant, JP Morgan Chase Bank. The Commercial, promoting planning for Retirement, featured Shaggy’s 1995 hit, “Boombastic (Get It Here)” which provided the soundtrack to the 30 second clip. The single was previously featured in a 2015 Tide Commercial from the Philippines and has come a long way since being featured in a Commercial for Levi’s Jeans. “Boombastic” was the 2nd track and single off Shaggy’s Grammy winning album of the same name which went on to sell over a million copies in the US.
