We Close Black History Month With @ZiggyMarley & The Melody Makers’ “Black My Story”

With Black History Month and Reggae Month coming to an end, we’ve decided to close with a throwback! Going back to the year 1989, we look back at Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers’ “Black My Story (Not History)“. Produced by Chris Franz, Glen Rosentein, Tina Weymouth, and Ziggy Marley, this was released through Rita Marley Music and Virgin Records. In the song, Ziggy speaks on the progression of the black man and what they’ve contributed to the World, and encourages listeners to embrace it and not be fooled by the whitewashed version. He also names many African nations and promotes African Glory. The track is also the opener for the group’s 4th Album, “One Bright Day” which was also released in 1989.

To close off, here’s a quote from the late Nelson Mandela.

This a nuh no play ting, Protoje is back with another tune that’ll you’ll sing over and over. With a new Album on the way, he fires off, “‘Bout Noon“! With Winta James and Lamont “Monty” Savory handling the boards, Diggy may have just dropped a tune that can almost take over “Rasta Love” for the top spot as the new favourite. If you’ve never seen the impact “Rasta Love” had on the ladies when it dropped, you missed out on a moment. With “‘Bout Noon”, this calls for the secret getaways, the spontaneous dates, and even the late night Romantic Comedy watching while you and your significant other stay cozy under the fuzzy blanket. Mobay Rapper Chance (a.k.a. Kans) continues his run of dropping new music this year. His “Indelible Colours” project wasn’t enough, so he teamed up frequent collaborator Daley on “For The Low“. Produced by Mxdnight, the duo speak on being deceived. While they do admit their own past mistakes, they were thrown off when a friend was involved in their love triangles. Guess this is a game of “Bun fi bun“, but the Artists do express their feelings on this one. Not nice being put down for the low. Directed by LEB Studios, we see the story of a couple who are as loving as they can be, but one partner wasn’t being loyal throughout, and it ends where he faces the consequences of his actions in a very big way. Suitors beware, Anna is not here for the games, so you better come correct or leave her alone. Anna Mariah has been grinding in the past couple years, and we expect to see more of her in 2018. The Council is here! While they have been staying busy, the Jamaican Hip Hop Group consisting of Five Steez, Nomad Carlos, The Sickest Drama, and Inztinkz continue their mission to wave the “First Coast” flag everywhere they go. With their debut project “Nothing Else Matters” making its rounds, they added a boost in the form of a music video for the track “Council Arts“! Directed by Scotty Dreamkiller and shot in Kingston by Warren Buckle, we step into a Council cypher they each fire off a few lyrical rounds and further seal that Jamaican Hip Hop should not be taken lightly. With plans to release more work individually, and as a group, all you have to do is “Pay Attention“! “Nothing Else Matters” is available now, check out the video below.
