Last night, Detroit Rapper Royce Da 5’9″ premiered his “Trust The Shooter EP” with fans rejoicing. With a 12 track set, many were prepared for deadly bars. What we didn’t expect was “Rap On Steroids“, a track that features Philly’s own Black Thought…and Jamaica’s own Agent Sasco! Produced by Jahlil Beats, Royce delivers hard punches to the gut, Black Thought sends jabs to the ribs and Sasco delivers the uppercuts with his Dancehall delivery. A surprise to many as Sasco has been making moves on the low over the years, although I wish he dropped 16 or even 32 bars. Maybe Royce has a few tricks up his sleeve on his upcoming “Layers” album. A song for the ladies, Drake brings the R&B smoothness while Popskull brings the Island Dancehall Flavour over a Dancehall tinged Production. Will this be on “Views From The 6“? Lia Caribe on the other hand states she has no time for anything but the paper in her visual for the ZionnoizFreeze Records produced track, “Dolla Billz“. Directed by Icey Jace with BakerSteez using his editing magic, Lia says love can’t pay her bills and she wants the money to get what she needs. Watch her wash them at the laundromat, stacking them with her money machine, and of course getting to the cheddar with her friends. A clean visual that focuses on the “Money on my mind” statement, Lia will have viewers chanting the chorus in no time. There are many people in the world who may not be familiar with Ding Dong a.k.a. “World Ding“, but they know his songs and dances. From “Badman Forward, Badman Pullup” to “Syvah” to “Gas“, Ding has been steadily rising in fame. Recently he stopped by the Hot 97 Studio to chat with DJ Young Chow. Here the Dancer/Recording Artist spoke on his upbringing, being introduced to the Dancehall scene by Tony Matterhorn, his popularity over the years including crafting some of your favourite dances, working on music, wanting more International acts to work with Jamaican talent, showing off dances and more. He also taught DJ Young Chow his new dance, named “Twist Yuh Foot Dem“. Good to see Ding Dong on platforms like this, let’s see how he’ll dominate this year. Chip Off The Old Block: Meet The New Kids Of Dancehall x Reggae (Pt. 4)

First they started out as the youth of the Dancehall/Reggae culture, now they’re parents with growing kids. It isn’t unusual for the child of an Entertainer to follow in their parent’s footsteps one way or the other as at times they bring a modern take on their parent’s creations, or create their own lane. Some of the most famous off springs include Stephen, Ziggy, and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley (Sons of Bob Marley), Chino and Di Genius (Sons of Freddie McGregor), Junior Tucker (Son of Jimmy Tucker), Morgan Heritage (Children of Denroy Morgan), Tarrus Riley (Son of Jimmy Riley), Queen Ifrica (Daughter of Derrick Morgan), Protoje (Son of Lorna Bennett), Chronixx (Son of Chronicle) and many more. In part 4 of a few part series, I feature more of the new set of kids on the scene whose parents have covered much ground in their respective careers.
