OLDIES SUNDAY: ISasha – Don’t You Know (2007)

On “Oldies Sunday“, we feature hits, classics, one-hit wonders, guilty pleasures, and underground favourites. Today’s selection is no different, and we fly over to Trinidad and Tobago to check out ISasha’s “Don’t You Know“.

Produced and released by Studio 53 Entertainment in 2007, ISasha makes a dedication to his Woman who he misses dearly in “Don’t You Know”. Relationships are sometimes hard, and there will be conflicts, and ISasha pleads for her return as he reflects on what makes her special to him, and shares future plans. With a melodic delivery over a production that features the usage of the Steel Drum, “Don’t You Know” became an instant hit in Trinidad and parts of the world, and secured a favourite spot for many in their collections. “Don’t You Know” was featured on the album, “Real & Down To Earth“, which was done in collaboration with the late Trini Artist Million Voice. The song was later featured on ISasha’s 2017 album, “Talk The Truth“.

Since the release of “Don’t You Know”, ISasha continued to keep himself busy in music. Some have labeled him a “one-hit wonder“, but he went on to release more music that became hits for many, performed his songs in various countries, celebrated over 25 years as a Recording Artist, and is currently promoting the 2nd staging of the “ISasha In Concert” in San Fernando, Trinidad. “Don’t You Know” remains his biggest hit, and it continues to be requested for Dub plates, a popular song request, and a concert favourite.

Dancehall Artist Roshawny BadG has been making strides this year with his music. From a high profile collaboration with Govana, to releasing the “Hard 2 Love Mixtape“, he’s aiming for the top. Speaking of his Mixtape, he continues to promote it with content, and earlier he released the video for the track, “Cost“.

Directed by ForTheCvlture, Roshawny BadG hits the street with his lady in the video for “Cost”. Produced by V2J, he shares his feelings for his lady. Even though their personalities may differ, he appreciates what she has contributed to his life, and he even pictures the future with her. In a time where relationships are all about the optics, transactions, and ulterior motives, “Cost” is about a connection that’s greater than material things, and more about the moments together and true feelings. “Cost” is the closer off of the “Hard 2 Love Mixtape”, and it’s available for streaming now.

While the world is still reeling off of news stemming from the recent US Elections, there have been developments in regard to another topic of interest. There have been new reports against this person we call, “Such Man“, that may mean that he will not see freedom any time soon. The topic is a popular one, and there have questions and conspiracy theories. Dancehall/Reggae Icon Buju Banton has been aware of the developments, but he asks some important questions in his new single, “Such Man Party“.

Produced by Dutty Rock Productions on the Dave Kelly-sampled “Dutty Showtime Riddim“, Buju Banton doesn’t want fluff, he wants the truth about “Such Man Party”. Over the past few years, there have been many celebrities who have attended, and partied away at his many events, but since the accusations and arrest, some have remained silent about the matter, or have made public statements about not being a part of the dark side of those parties. Buju warns those who have been a part of these events to make sure they haven’t been doing sinister things, because when names are called, there won’t be any time for excuses, and no forgiveness. “Such Man” has been living a terrible life behind closed doors, and slowly but surely he’s being exposed through documents, videos, and witnesses. Detective Buju is on the case.

The name Nordia Mothersille has been showing up in the Jamaican music scene for a number of years, and has been highly praised. She has been making the necessary moves to develop her sound, made appearances on a number of tracks, released her own music, and even became a GRAMMY-certified Songwriter. Under the tutelage of Producer Notnice, she has been working towards her big moment. What’s that moment? The release of her debut EP, “Broken Child“.

Consisting of 7 tracks, Nordia Mothersille takes on a new stage with the release of the “Broken Child” EP. She shares songs about love, heartbreak, overcoming battles, and her dreams, and she puts her best foot forward in delivering this project. She has thrilled many over the years with her vocals, and Notnice compliments them well with his production throughout. Chronic Law is the EP’s only guest feature, and he delivered as he should. Nordia Mothersille is ready for bigger leagues and arenas, and those who haven’t been familiar, will know of her game pretty soon.

December 31st will be a night for the books and more as Dancehall Artist Vybz Kartel will headline his highly-anticipated “Freedom Street” Concert. Since his release from Prison on July 31, fans have been awaiting the day he takes the stage, and deliver his hits for them. The announcement of the Concert came this past August, and updates about the venue, the date, and what to expect have been shared and hinted. Earlier today, the public got a lot more information at the official Press Conference.

Vybz Kartel joined Joe Bogdanovich and “Skatta” Burrell of Downsound Records, and more on stage at Janga’s Sports Bar as valuable updates on “Freedom Street” were shared. For those who were eager to know what the lineup would be like, Kartel shared that his sons Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz, Skillibeng, and Spice are confirmed to share the stage with him. Busta Rhymes, longtime friend and collaborator would make an appearance at the event, and possible appearances by Drake, Popcaan, and fellow Portmore Empire members were mentioned. Updates for more lineup additions would be shared in the coming weeks on Social Media. For those wondering what the “World Boss” would do in terms of performing, he shared that the show would be split into different eras, and songs from his “Black Kartel” days, the “War Angel” era, the “World Boss” times, and his incarcerated time would be performed. As a bonus for Concert goers, Downsound Records will have a “Black Friday” sale on November 29 and 30 that will slash 50% off tickets for those who missed out on the early bird specials.

In addition to the Concert, Vybz Kartel also officially launched his “Str8 Vybz Rum” line. With three variations offered, Vybz will bring fans back to the days of “Street Vybz Rum“, and introduce a new audience to his entrepreneurial side. The Rum is already on shelves at select locations, and he plans to bring it to even more parts of the world in the coming months.

The world is ready for Vybz Kartel, and “Freedom Street” is just the beginning.

TRKSTR Shares His First Music Video, “Promise”

HyperPop/Alt Hip Hop Artist TRKSTR has been staying busy with the music over the past few weeks. He’s steadily making his presence be known in parts of Jamaica, but as with any new movement, it will take some time to achieve gradual growth. He’s aware of his place in the music scene, but is celebrating the wins when they come. Recently, he achieved a milestone by releasing his debut music video for the track, “Promise“.

Directed by Nigel Swaby for Elevate Media, TRKSTR finds himself in a bar in his debut video, “Promise”. Joined by his Female co-star Rochell Newton, he makes a connection with her throughout the clip, and shares his thoughts and intentions with her. The visual is a simple and clean one here, and is just the beginning for TRKSTR as he will expand his ideas in future music videos. “Promise” was co-produced with RJ Pasin, and is expected to gain some attention in the coming weeks. A music video isn’t always an east feat, but here’s to even more creative content from TRKSTR.
