Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from a legendary Reggae Artist, Sizzla Kalonji. Titled “Black Woman And Child” which was produced by Bobby Digital and released in 1996, we hear Sizzla showing love and appreciation for the black woman, promoting consciousness, Africa as the mother of all mankind, and Queen Omega. “Black Woman And Child” is one of Sizzla’s most popular singles and is a part of 2nd album of the same name which was released in 1997.

In recognition of yesterday’s “420” celebrations, today I feature a song from Reggae artist Chezidek. Titled “Leave The Trees” and produced by Hugh “Bunny Dan” Miller for Our Promotions in 2006, Chezidek warns us about the effects of drugs and alcohol while proclaiming that Marijuana is beneficial to the people and should not be discarded by the law enforcement as burning it harms the environment. He also sings about the positive effects of Marijuana where it is medicine and can be made into clothing and proceeds from selling it could support families.

Today we’re taken back in time, 1993 to be exact thanks to the team of Major Lazer, Busy Signal, The Flexican and FS Green. Titled “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” and directed by Jay Will, we see Busy Signal deejaying while dancers show off the top dances of that year. Check out the Cross Colours gear, the boots and jewelry. There are also cameos from Chronixx and Mystic. Very nostalgic, look at the trends from 20 years ago. OLDIES SUNDAY: @RealJuniorReid – One Blood (1989)


Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Reggae legend Junior Reid with one of his biggest hits. Titled “One Blood” and produced by J.R. Productions in 1989, this was a song that encouraged unity amongst everyone no matter where they live, who they are, their conditions, and their race for they all shared “One Blood“. He also encouraged others to stop the warfare for it caused too much bloodshed.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Folkes Brothers – Oh Carolina (1960)


In recognition of Shaggy’s 20 year anniversary of his “Oh Carolina” hit, I thought I might give you all the original version. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from The Folkes Brothers, the original artists behind the “Oh Carolina” single. The Folkes Brothers comprised of John, Mico, and Junior Folkes. Produced and released by Prince Buster in 1960, this is a love song where the artists are here urging Carolina to come back into the lead singer’s life after having bouts of sadness and loneliness.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @DennisAlCapone – Teach The Children (Teacher Teacher) (1971)


Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Reggae DJ and producer, Dennis AlCapone. Titled “Teach The Children (Teacher Teacher)” and produced by Duke Reid in 1971, AlCapone deejays about the activities that happen in the classroom with teachers and students. He spoke on children learning how to spell, speak foreign languages and show and tell along with students alerting teachers by saying “Teacher Teacher!“.
