It’s back to School time again, and US Retail giant JC Penney is here for it with all the sales. Recently, they released a new Commercial highlighting some “Back To School” deals with the “Get Your Penney’s Worth” tagline, and providing the soundtrack was the 1994 classic, “Here Comes The Hotstepper“! The song, which was performed by Jamaican Recording Artist Ini Kamoze and produced by US Producer Salaam Remi (Remix version) and the late Jamaican Producer “Fatis” Burrell (Original), is considered Ini’s biggest hit to date and his only track to top the US Billboard Top 100 Chart, while performing the same feat in the respective charts in Canada, New Zealand, and Denmark. The song was also a top 10 hit in various countries, and received Gold and Platinum certifications in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and France. The Intro of the single (Hit it! OLDIES SUNDAY: @KingBeenieMan – Maestro (1996)

On today’s Oldies Sunday, we look back at a single from the “Doctor“, Beenie Man! Recently he celebrated his 44th birthday, and we wanted to show love to one of the living Legends of Dancehall. Today we look at “Maestro“, an Opera inspired single that was produced by Patrick Roberts for Shocking Vibes Production on the “Sore Riddim” and released in 1996. Here Beenie further proclaims being “The Girls Dem Sugar” and shows love to the ladies who command attention, and are the “Wife” type. What really makes this single stand out, is Beenie’s delivery which is similar to an Opera Singer’s. “Maestro” was the first track featured on Beenie Man’s 1996 Album of the same name.

Abdul Wahab Lafta/UK Apache Deejays On @IslamChannel’s Living The Life (Throwback)

Reggae Music has done some amazing things worldwide. From turning frowns upside down, to building lifelong relationships/friendships, to influencing many sub genres, it’s incredible how all this came from the small Caribbean Island called Jamaica. Today, we go back a couple years to an Interview with the Ragga Jungle Artist formerly known as UK Apache, Abdul Wahab Lafta. Firstly, Ragga Jungle is a genre of music that was popular in the 1990s UK which was pioneered by Michael West (Rebel MC, Congo Natty), and was a fusion of Reggae, Dub, Old School Jungle and Dancehall.

Being interviewed on “Living The Life“, a Programme found on the Islam Channel in the UKAbdul spoke on renewing his Islamic faith, his popularity in the 90s as he had hit singles including “Original Nuttah” with Shy-FX, coming back with new music including his new single “Assalamualaikum“, performing at the 1EID Festival, and closing the show with a live performance of “Assalamualaikum“. Many thanks to Videographer Tyrone Simms who contributed to this post. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @SpiceOfficial – Needle Eye

Today’s music video takes us back to the year 1985, when Dancehall Artist Spice went through her “Cinderella” phase and in the end won the heart and attention of the love of her life, Nicholas. The video, titled “Needle Eye“, was directed by Xtreme Arts and pays tribute to the 80’s and 90’s Dancehall culture and fashion. Joined by her dancers, Spice delivers her hit single with a variety of dance moves and wearing various costumes. Love how colourful this video is, and for those who haven’t lived in those eras can see the back in the days imagery. For those who had Spice’s relationship in the rumor mills recently, they can now see the result of that picture that was floating around with cheating allegations. Very dope graffiti displayed at the end as well. Make it a throwback friday by watching the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @ItsTheTifa – Bottom Of The Barrel (2008)

Tifa-dancehall

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from one of Dancehall’s leading ladies, Tifa. Titled “Bottom Of The Barrel” which was produced by Ward 21 and released in 2008, we hear Tifa portraying herself as being superior to many other females out there. She speaks about women who do not take care of themselves and get caught up in many careless situations and shouts out all the women who keep themselves on point at all times and stay out of distasteful situations. “Bottom Of The Barrel” was Tifa’s first top ten hit in 2008 and became a favourite for many listeners. Since then she has made her way to be hailed as one of Dancehall’s elite artists belting out hit after hit ranging from “Hot Gal” anthems, R&B singles to even songs where she showcased how lyrical she can be. She was also a part of the female trio, “TNT” with Ward 21 label mates Natalie Storm and Timberlee which produced a mixtape titled “TNT – Three The Hard Way” in the same year.

Today, Tifa is currently signed to North America based Island Kings Records, the face of “Sound Is Genius” where she has released a line of Headphones, a Digicel Jamaica Brand Ambassador and is still a sought out artist. With “Bottom Of The Barrel” added to the list of her most loved singles, she still has many more hits to add to it.

Thank You Tifa for this song!
