Shabba Ranks’ “Ting-A-Ling” Sampled On @Wale’s “Folarin II” Album!

Recently, US Rapper Wale released his much anticipated album, “Folarin II“. The album is the sequel to his 2012 “Folarin” Mixtape, and finds him showing growth in his over 15 year career. The album features collaborations with J. Cole, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Jamie Foxx, and many others. While he is known for clever wordplay and songs for the ladies, a familiar sound popped up on this album. Knowing how Jamaicans can pop up in anything, Dancehall legend Shabba Ranks makes an appearance on “Folarin II”!

On track 2 titled “Name Ring Bell“, Shabba Ranks’ classic single, “Ting-A-Ling” was sampled. Produced by Tr!zzy Track, “Name Ring Bell” features the signature “Ting a ling a ling” throughout the track while Wale raps about why his name rings bells. “Ting-A-Ling” was produced by Steely & Clevie on the “Gigi Riddim” and released in 1992 through the Shang label, and it finds Shabba Ranks belting out clever Dancehall lyrics. The song became one of Shabba’s biggest hits, and has been sampled by Vybz Kartel, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg, and Drake.

To say that Jamaican music Icon Sizzla is a busy man is an understatement. With numerous singles and albums to date, Sizzla has made good use of the opportunities he has been given in music. His Humanitarian works and Community Development has further solidified him as a man of the people, and an example to follow for years to come.

Sizzla continues to ride high off of the success of his latest album, “On A High”. Released in August 2021, the album has further solidified Sizzla as one of the hardest working artists in Reggae, and his knack for creating quality music never took a break. With the title track and “Crown On Your Head” helping to push “On A High” to more ears and speakers around the world, the album has been praised by fellow artists and members of the music fraternity, and was shown an enormous amount of love on social media. The album has been featured on the top rated “The Ebro Show” on Apple Music, and was featured through various entertainment programs and mix shows across the Caribbean, Africa, and various parts of the world.

When Sizzla gives the studio time to rest, he is hard at work making plans, and pushing forward development at Judgement Yard Community Centre in August Town, St. Catherine. He is currently overseeing and giving a helping hand in numerous projects as a part of community’s “Musicville” area including a man-made river, a swimming pool, a learning centre, a restaurant, a new state of the art recording studio, and other structures. Macka B - We've Had Enough for 13thStreetPromotions.com #MackaB #Reggae #Music #UK

OLDIES SUNDAY: @MackaB – False Preacher (1988)

With Jamaica slowly being turned into a 20 season Mystery series shown on Netflix with the news of Kevin Smith and his cult, it’s only right that Oldies Sunday digs in the crates for a selection. This week, we stop in England to check out Reggae legend Macka B’sFalse Preacher“.

Produced by Mad Professor and released through Ariwa Sounds in 1988, Macka B plays the role of “Pastor Theodore Love Money” who makes a list of demands that his Church congregation should fulfill because “That’s what the Lord says!“. If the Pastor needs to wear new suits, let the Church goers provide for it. He needs a BMW? Let them pay for it! The single was featured on Macka B’s 1988 album, “We’ve Had Enough!“, which features plenty of commentary from the man himself. With the story of fake Preachers and Pastors being a very common one for many, Macka B has been calling those hustlers out for many years. Some have lead cults, some have made millions and are living better than their members, and some have claimed to have had the direct line to God. Many Church goers have been lied to, tricked, bamboozled, and lead astray, and many fake Pastors and false Prophets will have to answer for their crimes one day.

Since “False Preacher”, Macka B has released numerous albums, and has been a Youtube/Social Media favourite thanks to pairing a healthy lifestyle with his lyrical prowess. He has even been name dropped by popular Media Personality Desus Nice on his “Bodega Boys Podcast.

Thank You Macka B!

Zac Jone$ "The Weed Song" on 13thStreetPromotions.com

.@ZacJonesStony Presents To You, “The Weed Song” With @JesseRoyal1

Music has been made in tribute to Women, cars, money, God, and even where you’re from over the years, but when a song is made about Marijuana, “It hits different“. There are many an anthem for Ganja, Weed, Mary Jane, and Herb, from some of world’s Connoisseurs of the plant. Recording Artist Zac Jone$ is one of those Connoisseurs, and he presents to us today, “The Weed Song“.

Produced by Iotosh (who has been having a respectable run of productions in the past couple years) and featuring fellow Weed Scholar Jesse Royal, Zac Jone$ shares his “high” experience when he connects with the good green. “I wrote this song at a time when I was busy doing a lot of things outside of music and I remember feeling really overwhelmed”, Zac shares. “Every night after work I’d sit outside in my garden and smoke and I’d feel good in that moment; like that was my escape. One of those nights I just wanted to put that feeling into song. I pulled up the beat from Io (Iotosh) and it all came together right there. I was saving it for the right feature, so when Jesse heard it a few months later and started writing his verse on the spot, I knew that was it. It was all organic so that was dope.” Accompanying the single is a dope Music Video directed by Jesse Suchomel, which finds Zac in various parts of Kingston enjoying the Weed with friends (anyone caught the Potential Kid, Tessellated, and Sheen cameos?). What’s your favourite Weed strain?
