.@ShenYeng Takes Her Career To The Next Level With “ALPHA” Debut Album

Dancehall Artist Shenseea is a go-getter. Since her breakout in 2016, she has been one of the more consistent Artists, dropping plenty hits, and steadily growing her fanbase. Her career took a change for the better when she became the spokesperson for many corporate brands locally and Internationally, but when she signed to Rich Immigrants/Interscope Records, the world was going to see a lot more of her. With a few high profile collaborations and International appearances secured, fans were anticipating an album from Shenseea. She finally made that move with the release of her debut album, “ALPHA“.

Featuring 14 tracks, Shenseea is ready to make a bigger impact on the globe with “ALPHA”. While many Dancehall Artists scoffed at the idea of making albums, the tunes changed in recent years, and Shen joins a growing list of Artists who have released at least 1 complete body of work. Shenseea still gives fans a dose of her signature style, but she taps into other lanes on this album as well. She shows that she has bars, and holds a note well throughout, and with collaborations with Offset, Megan Thee Stallion, Beenie Man, Sean Paul, 21 Savage, and Tyga, her name and face will be present in many more places, encouraging more collabs. She still connects with her Dancehall sounds thanks to Rvssian, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Chimney Records, and Romeich Entertainment, but she takes advantage of the label’s connections by hopping on beats from Scott Storch, Dr. Luke, Cool & Dre, London On Da Track, Murda Beatz, and many others.

Shenseea may be on board to creating history, and only time will tell if she will have an impact like Sean Paul and Shaggy, or greater. “ALPHA” is just a small dose of what’s to come from her, and we hope Jamaica and the rest of the world are ready for it. Congrats to Chinsea!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Lady Ann – Informer (1981)

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we take the time out to feature Women who have made great contributions to our music culture. While we celebrate the Women all year over here, we recognize some through our Oldies Sunday section. Today’s selection comes from foundation Dancehall Artist Lady Ann a.k.a. the 1st Lady of Dancehall with the track, “Informer“.

Produced by Joe Gibbs and released through the Crazy Joe Label in 1981, Lady Ann calls out the many informants in her community as she is developing a relationship with her lover. She shares that while she gets closer to her man, there are those who are jealous of her relationship, and seek to let her father know of her dealings so that he can put a stop to it. Lady Ann’s “Informer” became a hit in no time, propelling her to become the first female Dancehall Artist to score a number one single. “Informer” was featured on Lady Ann’s sophomore album of the same name, and she became the first female Dancehall Artist to score a #1 single and album. The success from “Informer” gave Lady Ann an opportunity to tour throughout the US and Canada, in 1983 when she was the first female Deejay to earn the award for “DJ Of The Year“. “Informer” is nowadays recognized as Lady Ann’s biggest hit. There have been many female Dancehall Artists who have done historic things in their careers, but Lady Ann is a member of the first female Deejays to pave the way.

Respect To Lady Ann, Thanks For The Classic!

The Cables "Baby Why" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Music #Reggae #TheCables #StudioOne #CoxsoneDodd #1968 #Caribbean

OLDIES SUNDAY: The Cables – Baby Why (1968)

With “Reggae Month” coming to a close, Reggae is still constant on Oldies Sunday! Last Sunday, we highlighted what’s possibly the first ever Reggae song released called “Nanny Goat” by Larry And Alvin. The thing is, there’s another song that was released in 1968 that was debated to also be the first Reggae song, and it comes from the singing group The Cables called, “Baby Why“.

Produced by “Sir Coxsone” Dodd, the track was released through the Studio One Label in 1968. The Cables combined great vocals and sound to sing about a lover who exited the relationship for another, and they expressed the various emotions and thoughts experienced as a result. “Baby Why” was a slow burner for the group as it was strategically played on various sound systems, building its buzz for months before an official release. The single became a hit for the group, and has been debated along with Larry And Alvin’s “Nanny Goat” and Toots & The Maytals’ “Do The Reggay” to be the first real Reggae song. “Baby Why” was featured on the group’s 1970 debut album, “What Kind Of World“, and was later remixed by Dennis Alcapone and Prince Jazzbo.

The Cables consisted of Singers Keble Drummond, Elbert Stewart, and Vince Stoddart, and they recorded a string of singles for “Sir Coxsone” Dodd’s Studio One in the late 60s before parting ways with label in the 1970s. Since the release of “Baby Why”, the group went on to release many more singles and one more album before going through a series of breakups and reunions over the years.

thank you the cables for this classic!

.@Kris_Karz Continues His Run With New Single, “Weirdity”!

In every Creative’s life, there comes a time where you get things done right, and there are times when it all comes crashing down. Regardless of the outcome, you still have to keep it pushing. When Producer Kris-Karz made the transition into a Recording Artist, he knew his journey would not be a smooth one, but he was still determined to move forward. He shares a lil on it on his new single, “Weirdity“.

“Weirdity” came at a time when Kris-Karz was considering quitting music altogether. There can be times where the creativity is not flowing, and it feels like it doesn’t make sense pursuing your craft. Kris shares some of his thoughts and experiences on the track, and it serves as the track that pushed him out of the negative space, and into the greatness that he thought was no longer existent. Let this be a testament that good things really do happen. Kris’ production on “Weirdity” is one of his best, and his distorted approach is going to hit you in a good way. We believe “Weirdity” will be making its way to plenty speakers around the world, and connecting with many other Creatives. Don’t let the obstacles gets you down, hold the faith and keep on pushing! Expect a lot more Kris-Karz content this year.
