We Feature The New Kids Of Reggae/Dancehall In Our New Playlist!

In previous articles, we’ve highlighted Child Stars and dedications to the youth, but in closing of May being Child’s Month, we’d like to remix a series. A couple years ago, we highlighted the offspring of some famous names in Reggae/Dancehall in a 5 part series called “Chip Off The Old Block“. Today, we want to offer a playlist featuring some of the offspring that made their names known within the past few years. We urge you to not only play the songs, but support them as they continue their journey of carrying on the family name/reputation, or carve their own paths. Fi di yute dem! With all the craziness going on in the world, it is easy to get lost. With negative messages being spread everywhere, you could find yourself being caught up in it if you’re not careful. Producer Dale Virgo is aware of it all and aims to clear the air with nothing but good music on his “Upful” EP!

Featuring 10 tracks with contributions from Christopher Martin, Jah Vinci, D.A. Jay, Troy Anthony, Angele Smith, Moses, Senita, and ShortBoss, Virgo not only handled production on this with assistance from Troy Baker and Ryan Byfield, but he performed under the name ANTOU on the opening track. It is nothing but that good Reggae music from DZL Records that will rise you above all the madness. Consider this EP the medicine you enjoyed taking, even when you weren’t sick. The only results from this overdose are nothing but good vibes and a peace of mind. Prepare to keep this one on high volume as it’s available on all your favourite Digital streaming outlets such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @IAmEvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow”

Long before he gave you an “Anthem“, and before he met a “Familiar Stranger“, Recording Artist EvaFlow was giving you bars. Today in a new episode in our “Quick Throwback” series, we go back to the early 2000’s to hear EvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow“. Borrowing Jay Z’s “H.O.V.A.” instrumental and Protoje giving an intro, EvaFlow gets into his bag to deliver an “overdose” of rhymes straight to your ears. The track could be found on one of his earlier mixtapes titled, “Unsigned Unhyped OnPoint” which finds the artist tackling various Hip Hop beats. Straight outta Santa Cruz with the “Over…diggydose“!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Locksley Gichie & The Zion Boys – Teach The Children (1974)

In recognition of May being Child’s Month, our Oldies Sunday selection comes from Locksley Gichie of the UK band The Cimarons along with The Zion Boys. Titled “Teach The Children“, this was produced by Kush and released through Harry J Records in 1974. The song calls for listeners to raise children in the right ways, know GOD, teach them how to be creative and make their world a better place, and help them to spread peace and love into the world.

The single was released on vinyl as a B-side with the main track being “I’m Leaving It Up To You” by Winston Reid & The Zion Boys. Since then, Locksley continued his role as Guitarist for The Cimarons over the years. Gichie has also lent his skills to various Artists including Los Aggrotones.

Stefflon Don gets a lil sweet, and a lil aggressive in her latest single, “Senseless“. With the summer coming up, you know Steff had to drop a lil heat that will have the dance floor jumping, and Snapchat and Instagram videos popping! For the pretty girls, the wife types, and the bad gyal dem, gwaan do yuh ting and mash up dem head! The track was previewed in April when Stefflon unveiled her partnership with Clothing Brand boohoo for a 73 piece collection. We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @TheAlkaline’s “Mi Love Woman”!

We took a week off, but today we’re back with another post in our “Quick Throwback” series. Today we go back to the year 2011 with Alkaline’s “Mi Love Woman“! Borrowing Seanizzle’s “Split Personality Riddim“, the young Alka (who was attending Ardenne High School at the time) expressed his love for the women, and wishes to “touch all the women in the world“. He also shot a video and featured some of his high school peers.

Since the release of “Mi Love Woman”, Alkaline went on to become one of Jamaica’s most controversial Deejays with a cult-like following similar to currently incarcerated Artist, Vybz Kartel. He has enjoyed his fair share of hit songs as well, and has managed to see success despite taking time off, or being involved in conflict. Stay tuned for another quick throwback!
