Released through Restricted Records, Toppy Boss steps out with an energetic sound, and a unique delivery on “Yard”. The sexually charged single has been a hit in Trinidad and parts of the Caribbean, but it has taken on a new life in Jamaica. Since its release in June, it has been receiving a wave of support from the 876 thanks to social media and radio. From dance videos on Instagram and TikTok to Dancehall selectors showing it a lot of love on their various mix shows, “Yard” is easily a hit for Toppy Boss in 2021. In support of the single, a music video was released. Directed by Propper Stuff Productions (PSP), the dance heavy visual quickly gained thousands of views on Youtube, in addition to the thousands of streams it has received so far. Inspired by the love he has received from Jamaica for “Yard”, he plans to follow up with collaborations with prominent Jamaican Dancehall Artists in the coming months.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Toppy Boss is a Dancehall/Trinibad Artist signed to American based Restricted Records. An active Artist since 2018, he quickly created a buzz locally and internationally with tracks like, “24/7”, “In Charge”, “Titanic”, “King”, and “We Bad” featuring Dancehall Artist Magic. OLDIES SUNDAY: Shades – She’s Gonna Marry Me (1969)

The month of June is a popular month for Weddings around the world, so why give you all something to add to the playlist? For Oldies Sunday, we go back in time to check out a track by a singing trio named Shades called, “She’s Gonna Marry Me“!

Produced by Winston Riley, Shades’ “She’s Gonna Marry Me” was released through Riley’s Techniques label in 1969. On the track, lyrics about looking forward to marriage are shared, and what the experience will be like when it comes to marrying the love of your life. Shades was a short-lived group composed of former The Techniques Vocalist Bruce Ruffin, former The Paragons member Tyrone Evans, and a 3rd singer who remained anonymous. Given that Bruce Ruffin was a member of The Techniques, some outlets printed copies of Shades’ single with credit given to The Techniques. Nonetheless, “She’s Gonna Marry Me” was a hit for Shades, and was even covered by Reggae singer Junior Delgado in 1979. Since the release of “She’s Gonna Marry Me”, Bruce Ruffin went on to work with numerous Artists and Producers, and even took on a career in Law after the disbandment of Shades, while Tyrone Evans emigrated to the United States, and continued to work with numerous Artists and Producers, and even re-joined The Paragons before passing away in 2000.

To say that Dancehall Artist Demarco has been on the grind is an understatement. When he’s not recording and releasing singles, he’s dropping music videos, and even getting busy producing. With a new album on the way, he’s just gonna be as busy as ever. He takes on another role in the music video for his new single, “Mover“.

Directed by Demarco and featuring Konshens, the two play Football (Soccer) Coaches to all-female teams as they vie for a win. Though the match may not be on a grand scale like an UEFA Cup match, we do get to enjoy some lovely ladies tackling, scoring, and of course bubbling to the Ineffable Records produced track. Catch Demarco and Konshens going through the emotions as they each need the win. Who will the match? You’d have to tune in to find out. He may be currently incarcerated, but Tommy Lee Sparta’s music continues to see the light. He possesses a strong work ethic, and his fans benefit greatly as a result. While International collaborations are nothing new to him, he recently teamed up with Toronto based Rapper Killy on the track, “Love Prison“.

Produced by Khalil Tatem (Killy), Killy and Tommy Lee Sparta get into war mode as they have all their guns loaded here. With their combination of Dancehall, Hip Hop, and their respective melodies, we wouldn’t mind if they gave us more tracks together, even an EP. “Love Prison” is featured on Killy’s new “KILLSTREAK 2” project. Killy taps into his Caribbean background (his dad’s Bajan), but let’s see if he’ll reach out to some more dope Artists from the Caribbean for future releases. We hope Tommy Lee Sparta is given another chance at freedom.
